Plake does all the local stuff. This is probably his primary source of income from K2. He's been to the local ski areas a bunch of times.

I might have to go to this to look for stuff for my 5 year old. I think she's going to need a new ski suit or jacket/pants this year. She may even need new skis. I usually give my local business (non internet) to the shop here in Sterling, but I've never even heard of Willi's, which has a store in Fairfax. If I've never heard of them, my guess is that there is nothing notable about them. But since the expo center is only 4 miles from my house, I might have to see what they've got.

JohnH, it's the same chain as at 7Springs, Fairfax shop opened last year.

I really like their timing and effort on this.

Willis

JohnH,

Last season was the stores first season open in Fairfax. I visited them when the first openned. They had a pretty good selection of skis & boards and related accessories. The staff seemed pretty knowledgeable. The store is located in a shopping center on the corner of Rt. 50 & Waples Mill Rd. (or Germantown Rd.).

I also shop at the other store in Sterling.

I think that's Jermantown Rd? Near the Home Depot Expo? That's a bit out of my way, so I probably won't go to their store unless there's a compelling reason, but good to hear some positive feedback about them.

The guys as Alpine are going to have a hissy fit. They used to be the only game in town of any merit, without going to DC or MD.

Hopefully I'll be able to make it to the show in Chantilly. We should have someone set up a Barking Bears booth!

edit: I just realized something. The title of this thread is misleading. It's not a swap, just a sale.

Umm, don't know how you get that impression, I dropped three pairs of skis off for the early birds to pick through. 20% to a local ski patrol of my choice. Terms of swap detailed in second-to-last paragraph.

Maybe you're just not used to the idea of having a pre-swap dropoff days in advance, so that early birds don't just get the shop seeds?

"Maybe you're just not used to the idea..."

That's a rather condescending comment, don't you think? No, I'm perfectly used to it. Maybe I just missed the paragraph at the bottom that talks about the swap, and didn't see anything in the promotional stuff at the top that said "...& Sawp..." or something like that.:

SKI & SNOWBOARD SWAP ! Willi's Chantilly Ski & Snowboard Sale has organized the ultimate ski and snowboard swap. If you want a real bargain, there should be lots of great used gear to choose from on August 18-19 at Dulles Expo Center. If you want to sell your used gear, bring it with you or drop it off in advance between August 11-16 at Willi's Ski & Snowboard Shop in Fairfax. Call 703.385.7669 for directions or details. As a seller, you get to keep 80% of what your gear sells for, and 20% get donated to the registered ski club or charity of your choice, which include Special Olympics of Virginia. And as an added bonus, if you accept payment in the form of a Willi's Gift Card, you will receive 100% of what your gear sells for, and Willi's STILL donates 20% to the ski club or charity of your choice!
