Chicks with Quivers - Page 2

You guys are funny

'Her' quiver is bigger than 'his' quiver in our family (he spoils me so).

155cm Volkl P60 SL race stock (trainers)
155cm Volkl P60 SL race stock (race)
161cm Volkl 6*
168cm Volkl Vertigo G20W
173cm Volkl P60 GC Motion
and coming soon to a tuning bench near me:
180cm Volkl Racetiger race stock

I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting something - besides the multiple snowboards and 2 pr of blades.

Volklgirl, I was anticipating your arrival to this thread.
We are girls who love our options open, aren't we?

I have 2 pairs.
1 pair of pretty old Atomic GS9's that I really hope to upgrade & pair of short Solomans that I use when teaching never evers.

Then there's my daughter, the racer, who has at least 6 pairs of skis. All but one is a race ski. I'm not exactly sure what she has, but it includes:

a Rossi 155 SL ski, bought as a demo this year at Mt. Hood
Vokyl GS - bought last year as a demo at Mt. Hood
Another Rossi SL, bought 2 yrs ago & is to worn to race on this year,
2 pairs of Atomics, 1 GS & 1 SL. These are her race skis from high school and they don't meet the FIS race standards
1 pair of 5 yr old Rossi's

As always, I'll be seen in August, taking the ferry from NY to VT with my car packed with skis for their yearly binding check & stonegrinding.

Can I include the skis I just can't bear to throw away, hoping they'll be worth money as antiques, or maybe make a good chair, someday?

The ones I still use:
Salomon Scream 8W
Salomon Equipe 10 3V race
K2 Phat Luvs with Naxo AT bindings (my favs )

Ones that take up space in the basement (from back in the days when I skied on 195s):
Kastle RX National Team SL (the gold ones, from 1985 or '86!)
Salomon Prolink EXP Demonstration (from 1995)

Ones I have my eye on:
K2 MissDemeanor (had so much fun on them at Big Mountain in March : )

OMG, the Memories come flooding back!!!!!

Mine were from the year after - the red ones, 190cm!!

My useable quiver got pared down last year when I sold:
156cm Volkl P50 SC Porsche edition
161cm Volkl 5*
And when I bent my "everyday" P60 SL.

Well......volklgirl and I live in the same town, and ski the same hills.
Within a 40 mile radius we've had an atomic rep and a volkl rep, so its always been easy to get demos of either ski. For me, the volkl rep was always easier to get a demo from.

Besides, Volkls are awesome!

Now the bad news...........both reps have retired. To my knowledge they haven't replaced the atomic rep yet, and the new volkl rep is a bit farther away. Sad news in demo land.

Powdermama's Ski's

Powdermama uses:

Fischer AMC 73's (All terrain)
Fischer Scenio 500's (rock skis)
Rossi B1 W (teaching kids/Bumps)
K2 True luvs (teaching skis)

Also noteworthy is the Fischer Women's Vision skis. This is one of the first women's ski's that held an excellent line in any condition. Lightweight, yet alot of fun.

No. Volkl's are terrible... The only one I would pay money for is the Mantra. The rest of them are best left at home. Although... women seem to like them for their soft/smooth ride, so maybe you have to be female; or ski like a female?

So, since I like my iXRC1100s so much, I need to find one who will give me Head (along with K2,...)?

She is on:

Dynastar Exclusive 10's with Look Nova 11 bindings and Nordica W10 (or some number like 10) boots...

She has also laid claim to the following of my skis:
154cm Elan SLX
155cm Nordica Dobermann SLR (although above her ability at the moment)
155cm Elan SLX WC Race Stock
172cm Salomon Equipe 10 2V - not a great ski but she wants to try something with a more 'GS' feel since she has always skied on short turning skis. I suspect it will not be until the end of this next season that she is ready for a GS-like ski and I plan on keeping her on the Elan SLX's as much as possible.

Later

GREG

EDIT: Oh yeah, No Volkl in there either...

Wow that is one SICK quiver. Awsome!!!! You chicks are scaring me.

Quiver above needs salt (Volkl Unlimited AC4).

Maybe a good time to have a quiver contests with different categories like best all around any conditions quiver, best antique quiver, size matters quiver, best looking quiver, widest quiver, narrowest quiver, ugliest quiver, .......

For example, I found a pair of old 60s head metal skis with leather Nordica boots on garbage night in front of some house. I just could not see them being destroyed. I also have a pair of K2 Classic 4s with the eagle/turkey logo. They might win the ugly catagory but then again they are too nice.

Volkl Supersport Six Star(161cm)
Rossignol Bandit X (177cm)
Volant FX2.2, LONG and STRAIGHT (195cm)
Had Solomon Crossmax 10's (165cm) but didn't like them that much and sold them
Hope to add this season, haven't decided what yet.

Bonni,
Don't you have a pair of Dynastar and a Pair of Rossi's too?
You had Dynastar's when I skied with you last season and Rossi's the season before. You have a little quiver started.

Catskills,
Have you noticed that there aren't many "women specific skis" listed. There are a few, but most are some pretty aggressive skis

trekchick, Yes I did notice that, which is why I sgguested the AC4 rather than the women only Attiva Series.

So now that you mentioned it, why don't these female quivers here have many women only model skis? What's up with this anyway. Are the ski manufacturers wasting their time making women only skis?

I'm opening myself up to a flaming but........
I think a woman who has a quiver is a woman who is an aggressive skier. Up until recently the women specific skis tended to be softer and more forgiving, and thus not an adequate ski for an aggressive female skier.

I think the market for the women specific skis is changing to cover the woman who wants a more substantial ski, and that is a good thing. Where as, in the past their primary target was the woman who was a bit more of a casual skier. Someone who's husband bought her skis to try and encourage her to ski with the family.

In my house, we have 14 sets of skis. My husband skis on mine once in a while, and I ski on some of his once in a while. IF I were to get something like say.....the Phat Luvs, not so much of a versitile family ski huh?
And as for resale, you get a woman ski, you will only be able to sell it to another woman.
My entire quiver could be sold to a woman or a man. Better resale value!

Is the industry wasting their time? I don't think so, but I do think they need to make it more obvious that I need to give a woman specific ski another try. Now that you mention it, maybe I will demo a few.

Yes, some of them did, this pair does not. I bent the ones that did.

I forgot, I also have some stored K2 UVX Unlimited (195cm), K2 5500's (195cm) and K2 Comp (195 cm), but I don't thing they are skiable anymore! I bet they would make a nice chair!

BTW- I've never owned a women specific ski.

How many of us women wear helmets?
After the serious helmet questions we've had in the past few days, I wonder...........How many of these women wear a helmet, and how many make sure their family members wear helmets?

For example:
I have friends with kids, who MAKE SURE, their kids wear helmets, but they don't invest in a helmet for their own melon.
Reasons:
I don't go as fast as my kids.
Kids are so careless, I'm really cautious.
I haven't found one I like yet.

So, if you're a woman with a quiver............is a helmet a part of your gear?
I bought a new Giro fuse at the end of the season.
