2007 EPIC SKI Tahoe Gathering Planning - Page 3

I'll fire up the ol' Petrbilt and head South for the gathering. I should be able to haul a few pairs of skis in a semi.
You pullin' a Smokey & The Bandit? you know lugging bootleg skies across the Rockies?
OK Michael, I know work is like a bitch and all, but when are you going to tell us where to make reservations.
I want a lake-front room, private single or double occupancy under $100/night. (I love watching this guy deliver the unpossible)

Thanks.

CR:

I was under the impression that you lived in the mountains...

Sadly, I have to drive these days. About 1.5 hours to most of the slopes.
I'm staying at my friends cabin in South Shore for free...Just like every year I go to Tahoe.

Look on the bright side...you got me beat by 1.5 hours (not withstanding traffic)!

ha, i have an uncle in those el dorado foothills. don't give me that "sadly."

and if his son comes out late march, i'll try to drag him north away from sierra-at-tahoe for an epic day.

Lodging, Lodging, Lodging . . . .

Where are people staying during the North Shore Gathering???

What was that dive we stayed at last time Pow?

That had to be the noisest place ever. The door had a half inch crack under it and the snowplows noise just echoed through the place.

Lars,

I thinks the city garage was right behind us. Every morning at 5:30am the plow trucks were always loading up. With that damn beep . . . beep . . . beep sound.

At least we knew that it was a powder alert and we were first in line.

Coolio dood, I'll most likely see you then.

I’ll be there for the Alpine day. Plus, we will probably be making it a long weekend or be in Tahoe for the last week of March.

still haven't booked my flights, but I intend to stay on a few extra days.

Just pray for some serious dumps between now and then or be prepared to bring your ripping groomer sticks.

With Jan, Feb and March still to go, it's a little early to worry about snow.

Bring your ripping corn skis. Spring in sierra equals corn.

Or maybe powder:
some numbers and dates to ponder (and me remember). New Snow at Alpine Meadows
23" - 4/1/06
20" - 3/21/05
26" - 3/20/05

more complete record at Squaw's site

I was actually going to plan on being at Squapine during this weekend, but qualifying for the Kirkwood IFSA US Big-Mountain Tour Finals are a few days after this weekend, and now I'll most likey be at the Wood during this time in comp prep mode We'll see though....will call it as it comes.

intrigued am i to get my a$$ whupped on the slopes by some of you cats.

thus far the only Bears I've encounted have been Alpine Dad (only at the lodge taking gear off at Mammoth last July) and Sinecure (only as he zipped by to the Sherwood chair @ Alpine, stopping long enough to shake my hand and the hands of my two buddies before he went for another lap...he was laced up for hard carving and we were doing the bowl, so never the twain did meet again).

You need not worry my friend, as it is well known that all who post on this site are jaws open newbie gapers who flail mightily, and can't buckle their own boots.

SWEET!

Looks like I'm ahead of the game since I can definitely buckle my own boots.

MTT got some good news and will be attending Gordy's Stra8line Alaska Adventure. That's not good news for us, because he was organizing the Tahoe gathering. I will take over unless someone else is willing. Stay tuned for details, because time is getting short. I'm hoping Mike will post his findings on accommodations here. At that point, I think the priority is going to be making reservations. After that we can plan out places to meet and things to do.

That the Spirit

Way to pick up the ball and run with it.

MTT congrates and have fun in AK bud.

Lodging UNDER 100 With a Lake View!!

Hello Epic Bears. So the big question is (Where should you stay)
After initially thinking that the Motel properties in and around Tahoe City would be the way to go, I have found the price to quality ratio and Availability leaves something to be desired.

So what to do?
Here is what I recommend. Cluster the gathering around Crystal Bay.
Great pricing, all the North Shore amenities, Ski Shuttles.

Needless to say there are many different types of properties all along the North Shore but I recommend that most of the Bears would be happy to stay at one of these two properties.

Book Soon. And Enjoy

Cal-Neva Spa and Resort 79$ per night Special
http://www.calnevaresort.com/spa.php

Biltmore 50$ night and up. The Hotel is much nicer than the Cottages
http://www.tahoe-biltmore.com/tahoe/SITE/top/listing.cfm/activity/362/0/direct

This area has pretty much everything you need for after hours and early morning.

Don't believe a word this guy says. I saw him first run drop off onto a black diamond in the trees with low vis. and bad snow.: Nice meeting you VA.
Interesting lodging suggestions. I woulda never thought of Crystal Bay!

BTW, I got over being lazy and did a search on Stra8line. Looks cool.

for those who were as clueless as me prior to this thread.

How's the transportation to and from the airport, between the resorts, etc? Doable without a car?
