TOO FUNNY! Beta..I KNOW you mustta seen that that Warren Miller flick..there's the shot of those guys skiing..but not really below the waist....then the commentary..and it looks like they are skiing on this mountain road..then THE SMOKE!..then the shots of the black Chevvy dually..TOWING these guys WITH A ROPE!
Then the shots of the smoke POURING off the skiis!! these things were on fire..
Haven' seen it?Ya gotta see it!..
(those hand held belt sanders..Dangerous..not for the inexperienced, less than ferociouslly strong arms/forearms/hands,the timid, the shy..NOT for skiis..)
If you're REALLY insistent on doing this yourself..I did a pair YEARS ago..that were literally garbage..with an orbital sander(yes they were that bad)..and some 80 grit aluminum oxide paper..followed by one direction only..tip to tail..block sanding..hand..a bit of filing..LOTS of p/tex/scraping..did I say LOTS?..hey..my 4S's came back to life!
Was it worth it? As a challenge/fun..yes! If you are doing serious/meticulous work?Yes..do you enjoy this?yes?
Would I EVER ressurect a beaten pair of skiis like this again?No..like this?NOT in your life!
Get a reference from someone about a good shop..for pretty good use..a good tech can do this on a belt machine..file touch up,p.tex,..here in Canada..belt base finish, file touch up,hot wax..$15 to $25..plus p.tex..usually $5 to $10..I know the place that does mine charges $18..machine tunes/grinds can be had for about $28 to $35..Precision Ski..goes from about $35 to $50(5 machine)The belt machine can be used for shaped skiis, beveled edges, and a basic base structure..nothing fancy..file touch up..BUT ONLY if the bases/edges are already pretty good..and you're not picky about the structure...if the bases/edges are that bad..forget the belt..they'll only end up on the machine anyway..
