How much would a Giro 10 helmet cost in North America ?

Are ski helmets significantly more expensive than bicycle helmets ?

They certainly are in Europe. I am just trying to get an idea of how much more we have to pay.

A G10 w/o audio will run you about $150 direct from Giro, A comprable helmet in features from Giro in cycling costs $75+. So thats the scoop. Hope that helped.

Thanks. I thought a G10 might be cheaper.

Still a price premium over cycle helmets. You can get some cycle helmets for under $25 in the UK.

A good helmet is worth the investment.

Old Bell Helmet ad:
If you've got a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet.

Is there any proof that less expensive helmets are ineffective ?

Regarding the 10$ helmet slogan ' They would say that would'nt they ?

I always wear a helmet, skiing, biking, and motorcycling.
It is true that some helmets are more popular and there for more expensive, without added safety benefits,
but, when shopping for motorcycle helmets I found that most helmets have an impact rating. It seems that the higher the impact rating, the more money it costs.
If I can find that rating information, I'll post it here.

When it comes down to it, its more about the fit and coverage. If it doesn't fit right and cover your head properly, it will not do it's job.
All in all, find what's comfy for you and covers your melon well and you'll be fine.

That is interesting I have not heard of that before in regards to ski helmets.

Point well made about fit, which is why I would never buy mail order unless I had already tried the same helmet beforehand.

I've used a Giro nine.9 for the last two years. It's very comfortable plus it doesn't effect my hearing. I tried on several different brands and some helmets blocked out sound. The nine.9 was definity the most comfortable of all the helmets that I tried on.
