April skiing conditions
We flew to SLC on April 6 this year, skied 4 days. We stayed at some fancy-schmancy place in Deer Valley, but the Cottonwood Canyons were very easy drives.
Day one: Deer Valley
Day two: Solitude
Day three: Alta
Day four: Snowbird
One of the best trips I've been on. Excellent conditions, especially for the time of year. In fact, the road to LCC closed on day 2 because of an avalanche which was why we found ourselves at Solitude. PLENTY of snow. Minmal lift lines at all four places.
Oh - the nightlife. We drove 5 -10 min into Park City each night. Highly recommended. Great bar scene, great food. Don't worry about the weird Utah alcohol laws - it all works out fine. I liked the nightlife better than Breckenridge, which is a great ski town, as well. (I concur with some of the other posts about South Lake Tahoe. It is depressing the watch the old folks sitting at slot machines in a daze just feeding money in.)
Of course, YMMV, and I'm sure others will disagree with my assessment! This was our first trip to Utah, but can't wait to return.
I'll try to link to a picture of the snowpack on top of the mid-mtn lodge at Alta. The wife is standing there for perspective.http://picasaweb.google.com/wcwood/U...20173931495442
