LisaBatt from Ridgefield, CT

Hello Bonni...Ski Diva recommended this web site to me. I think it is great that you are attempting to get other women skiers together to meet before ski season! I love to ski, and find it difficult for non skiers, to understand and appreciate my passion for it. I'm no double black diamond skier...but love it nevertheless. I got started late in life. ( Didn't learn till my college days) Skied off and on for about 15 years, and just got back into it 4 years ago with a vengence. I happily refer to myself as a middle age ski junkie!!! Hey... I should have a bumper sticker made with that phase! Anyway I just wanted to say hi.

Welcome, Lisabatt, Official Middle Age Ski Junkie!

There are lots of us who are not Double Diamond skiers, and we'll be happy to ski where you ski. Will you be able to make the Oct. meeting?

Sorry for the delay in responding to the interest in meeting in Sept in New Hampshire --- seems like I've been outa town forever.

How about an overnight stay and a hike on the weekend of Sept. 15-16, Friday-Saturday ... can anyone do that? That would involve driving to North Conway Friday night, meeting for dinner, bunking over in the ski house ($7.50 per night), hiking on Saturday, finishing off with a shower and dinner, then driving home.

We could do an easy hike or something more strenuous ... there are so many options, both flat and vertical, right there in the White Mountains. Packing a lunch for the summit is always good. Presumably there won't be too many leaves on the trail rocks yet, and there should still be lots of light for a good day's hike. Don't forget the HUGE outlet mall is right there in Conway, in case that's your thing!

Anyone game?

Dang, we'll be camping and touring Washington and Montana with a few Bears.

I probably won't make the Oct. 28 meeting, either. I have two surgeries scheduled back to back and I'm to be 'off my feet' for both of them. I'll see if I can hobble in on crutches.
Going to have to miss this. My foot is still in a walking boot making it impossible to hike. Maybe next year!

Went to the doc on Wed and things were still on the slow mend. Gave me this ridiculous up to the knee boot. I probably shoukld have never gone Mt bike but that is water under the bridge. Its been 16 weeks since my surgery so I thought things would be good by now. It is getting close to ski season so I don't want to take any more chances!!

Looks like the Sept 15-16 get together in North Conway will have to wait till later. I hope something can be worked out; maybe snow season will be a better time. Let's keep trying.

meeting to ski

Would still love to arrange to meet and ski with other Divas of the hills come snow season!
Any potential dates? Places?
Last year I skied with a fellow women skier (in a discordant marital relationship like myself ) the third weekend in Jan. at Okemo. Conditions sucked, but we had a good time skiing nonetheless.

Let's play.

Hi Bonni

I had tried to send you a PM a few weeks ago, not sure if you got it. But just wanted to let you know I am planning to go to the N.E get together on OCT 28th. Hope all is well with you.

Hi Lisablatt....I got your PM just this morning as we just got home from a whirlwind 'vacation' at 3 am this morning! Now I need a vacation to recover.

I'll know more in a few days about the possibility of travelling after this second surgery. I'm gonna try to make this dinner if at all possible. I'd feel awful if I started this to get people together, then had to miss it.

Hi Bonnie

Good luck with your upcoming knee surgery...I hope all goes well for you this time. This is the second one, right? I don't remember if you had complications the last time around...but nevertheless I wish you all the best. If this makes you feel any better ..I just started some physical therapy (again) for a degenerative lumbar disk. I over "did it" on boring tasks like vacuuming, steam cleaning my carpets, and other dreadful household stuff. My teenage daughter always likes to remind me that I have "OCD" in cleaning. I told her it's just a genetic condition I have from my mom (who is Italian) called the Italian clean freak syndrome. (I'm not that bad)...I think my kid's think all this stuff just gets done by itself" and they are OLD ENOUGH to know, this is not so! Anyway I am going to keep up with all the back strengthening exercises, so I can be OK for ski season. I am very grateful to have both an Orthopedic and physical therapist who love skiing. They are a great positive force! Also regarding the getogether for Oct 28th...If you know other people who would like to go but feel it is too long of a drive, I would be interested in car pooling. Just give them my email address. Take care!!

I'm going to have to be a party pooper. My podiatrist has scheduled my surgery for Oct. 27th. There is No Way I can make the meeting.

I had asked for the week before, but he couldn't get me in. I need to get this done soon so it doesn't cut into ski season, and I can't put it off till sometime in November. I have to be off it (read: no skiing) for 6 weeks. That puts me on skis in mid-December. ARGH!!!!!!

Hi again

Just read your post....Just go ahead and do the surgery...the sooner, the better !!!!! Better for you to recouperate and enjoy the "bulk" of he ski season. I'm sure everyone will understand. You can't do anything about the timing of these things...Please don't woory about anything else, but getting well and feeling good after your surgery....and all the great times you'll have skiing after this is taken care of!!!

I tried to get it sooner.......or later. No dice. Damn small towns!

You should also post this on http://www.theskidiva.com/forums/
Maybe, after they gain some confidence, some of the ladies might feel comfortable hanging out here, too.

If this works out, we can set up a pajama party in Colorado!

Any chance of the party coming to me? I should have kept the meeting at our house......at least I could still attend!

I will have to miss that meeting Oct. 28th. I know I'll be in no shape to travel. It's been 3 days since my meniscus tear repair and I'm still hooked up to the ice water pump and still very swollen making walking difficult, and I'm still loopy from the meds. With another surgery in a month, and longer recovery time, I won't be doing much for a couple of weeks after that. Dang.

Good news is that I will be able to ski by December. Keep me posted on when we will be meeting on skis?:

PS. Waiting for permission to post on Ski Divas, Ski Diva. Let's have some fun!
I think I am have to drop out too. I have some Minor Foot Surgery on the 26th of October. I think, eventhough it is only minor, the 28th will be too soon afterward.
Sorry about all your troubles, Teachskiljp and Bonni. Hope you both have a fast and full recovery so you'll be okay for ski season.

My vote still goes for Brattleboro. For anyone coming from the Boston area, it'd really be a lot more convenient.

What does everyone else think?

OK it is getting closer to 10/28/06

As best I can count we have 5 possible 6 for sure:
Lisabatt and friend (maybe)
Ski Diva and Hubby
Happy Feet and oldfarms

We are thinking about a late lunch in Brattleboro.
If it helps anyone in Boston or south of the city we could move it to Keene,NH.
although that would be a pain for Lisabatt.
I think we need to get the count up to 8 for sure.
Please post if you plan to make it

Oldfarms,
SkiDiva is limited on internet access the next few days but,
She has a new forum for "divas" in an attempt to get more women into skiing, and I think she has a few more women from there interested in this group.
Check out this thread from there:

Thanks for mentioning that, Trekchick!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we'll have two more from TheSkiDiva.com: Lilgeorg and hubby.

Maybe we can get some others, too.

How about you EpicSkiers? Anyone else want to come? It'll be fun!!!

Unfortunately Oct 28 won't work for me. Got 2 events pulling me to be in northern NH that weekend (but I'll be drooling at the slopes if they get even a light dusting!). So keep me posted on ski days as I may be interested still.

The October 28th meeting has been postponed.
As it turns out far too many bears have other commitments that will not allow them to meet on 10/28.

The next plan is to schedule two ski days (in December) where we can all ski and have some fun.

One ski day will be a weekday event and one ski day will be on a weekend.
Please let me know what mountain you would prefer to ski and if you will be a weekday or weekend ski bear
