My first overnight was a disaster on the west side of 81. I didn't realize that saving a few bucks would be like night and day ... I "stayed" at a place that rhymes with Rhoads Whey in ... It seems that they have "permanent residents". In this case the "people" above my room had an endless beer party .... with little toddlers running around till past one ...
Second year we stayed at a place that rhymes with E con O' Luge ..
I went in and checked out the dining room and it looked pretty nice. Our rooms were around back .... : ... and around back was nothing like the nice dining room. My kids first observation "Dad is that blood on the wall? ... " .... it was. My observation was the mattresses stored under the stairwells ... fire code? Strolling down the hall more revealed more "permanent residents" and the smells of exotic food coming from the open doors of the "permanent residents" who were cooking on hot plates. The final observation was the battering ram marks the police made on a few of the doors!
This is all within a stones throw of the off ramp for the mountain.
Next year we stayed at the Hampton Suites ... nice and what you would expect (Yuki is not a 5 star kinda' guy ... as if you didn't know), the funny thing is that we could see the sign of the prior years hotel across I-81. We are watching TV in the lobby while awaiting our dinner group and my kid blurts out ... "Look dad, on TV, where we stayed last year, the cops have the place surrounded" ... They did and we were glad that we were where we were and they were where they were and it wasn't last year.
Ski theft is one issue ..... violent crime another .... depending on which side of the highway you stay???
Big strike against Montage IMHO.
