Athletic Scholarships for Junior Racers

Thread Starter
I wanted to share this information about annual athletic scholarships for junior alpine ski racers up to $1,500 that the Far West Ski Association (FWSA) www.fwsa.org is offering. This year's deadline is 6/30/06. Please forward this info to any folks that may be able to benefit from these scholarships or who may know others who could benefit.

My local ski club belongs to this nonprofit, volunteer, regional ski association (FWSA) which has about 160 snowsports clubs with over 40,000 snowsports enthusiasts in 6 western states (CA, NV, OR, WA, NM, OR).

Here the link for more information and application form http://www.fwsa.wbees.com/page/page/1361760.htm

FWSA Athletic Scholarship Program
The Association awards Athletic Scholarships to developing Alpine ski racers participating in programs within our geographic region. With special thanks to the participation of Big Mountain Resort, Grouse Mountain Lodge in Montana, and Schure Sports, Inc., the makers of Karbon brand ski clothing, we are able to fund scholarships ranging in value from $500 to $1,500. Scholarships assist athletes who are committed to pursuing a competitive Alpine racing program. Scholarship funds may be used to offset training expenses and competition entrance fees, but may not be used for personal equipment or travel expenses. Applicants must show a need for financial assistance and prove they have a serious commitment towards competition and community involvement.

Any competitor who is currently a United States Ski Association (USSA) or Pacific Northwest Ski Association (PNSA) licensed J1, J2, or J3 athlete competing in a USSA affiliated Alpine Ski Racing program. Applicants must reside in or compete with an Alpine Ski Racing Club/Team within the states of Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon or Washington. Scholarship winners from prior years are eligible to apply for current scholarships.

A. What other athletic scholarship programs for junior alpine ski racers in any country are you aware of? Please post links or any other information (athletic scholarship program name, scholarship value, etc.) in this thread.

B. What are the best ways to increase awareness of an athletic scholarship program like this and to encourage junior alpine ski racers to apply? Any ideas would be appreciated. I think programs like this are wonderful and would like to help the FWSA get the word out.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Here in Central we are working on setting up the Shelley Glover Ski Education Foundation that will include scholarships for Central athletes. The Foundation is just getting off the ground but has helped a few kids this year.
