Golf - what's in your bag and why?

We had some great golf talk last summer here in the other sports forum. We like gear here so I thought it would be fun to talk golf technology.

Question is what's in your bag and why? Wanna add a little history to back it up go for it...

I'll start...

Played Ping eye 2 irons w/ zz lite stiff shafts 1989-2004. Pederson persimmon driver was in the bag nearly 30 years, about a 7' loft...too many diff fairway woods to list but main steed was persimmon wilson staff 4 wood....

Switched to Callaway x14 w constant weight reg flex shafts. Had lost too much clubhead speed and needed more flex to get distance back....but I draw/hook the ball now with recent swing rebuild and the offset was getting me in trouble....

Recently switched to and currently carry Callaway x14 pro irons, 3 - lw
As I walk/carry I usually only carry 11 clubs to lighten the load unless league play, I would carry the full 14...I normally carry 3,5,6,7,9,attack,sand,lob wedge, driver, 5 wood, putter

in bag (PING j bag/dual strap) now:

-Taylormade 360xd titanium driver A flex adila shaft 8.5 loft
-Taylormade R580 5 wood Taylormade reg flex graphite shaft
-Callaway x14 pro irons reg flex callaway constant weight shaft
-PING anser 2 putter(have 2 of these both 35" length one is black with flat lie, the other is silver upright lie currently rolling the black one)

I actually have a huge collection of putters including a stable of Wilson tour blades and many vintage PINGS and a couple of Callaway force 550's. The anser 2 tho, for me is the ultimate, the black clubhead anser is my most prized golf possession. I roll the ball very well: I also have a huge collection of wedges, including many forged models...I really like the x14 pro wedges

If you pull/draw the ball too much I highly recommend the Callaway x14 pro irons. Very very sweet, surprisingly forgiving and, with the regular flex shaft, really long for me.

That oughta get us started!!!

BE THE BALL!

I'll play:

Everything R flex, cause even with 100mph clubhead speed I am still way smooth.

Taylor RAC OS2 irons. Ugly topline, too much offset, hit everything straight and right at the target. What else matters.

Titleist 905 driver with YS6+ shaft. I love that shaft.

Callaway Steelhead 3 and 5 wood, although rarely at the same time. These things are over 10 years old and still electric. The 5 wood is my goto club on tight driving holes. 3 wood swaps with 3 iron depending on course.

588 54 degree SW
Vokey 60 degree lob, very low bounce.
Oddesy 2ball. Just works for me.

I was at a demo day last week and just didn't really look for anything.
Never been more set.

I play Ping i3 irons, Taylormade R5 driver (anyone want a KZG 460 cc driver that I could never hit worth a darn?--supposed to be for better players, which I clearly am not), Callaway Steelhead III 5 wood (my go-to too), and Nike CPR hybrid. Putter is a Tour Pro. I carry 3-W irons and use them all, and have a 56 degree MB sand wedge.

Looking forward to some golf talk this summer!

Sometimes I have to wonder about the web site you folks frequent. Is this Epic Golf? You guys have more money in your golf bags than in your ski quivers.

I have a set of middle-of-the-line clubs from Sports Authority, a 7-wood from Sam's Club, a 60 degree lob wedge and a sand wedge (all nameless). I actaully bought my putter at an honest-to-goodness golf shop:

I buy my golfballs second-hand

I play 1-2 times a year (once last year).

oh well. You come watch my kids on the weekends and I'll go play golf

Handicap 14.4,only been playing 2 yrs but play 75-80 days a yr

Here's a laff!

I play on el cheapo "Wally World " clubs that are Cobra clones total cost $120 ----------Driver 3w , 5W and 3-PW

Then i bought an el cheapo Wally World 64 degree wedge $20 and luv it

Then i bought my "expensive" clubs a $42 clone of the Monza Testarosa and a $40 hybrid clone of the CPR rescue club

Now I Want to get some new stuff so i Just Bought a Clone of the Ping G5 driver waiting for it and considering some Taylormade clones 3-PW

Tried all the NAME brands in this latest search at several Demo centers but still think i'm sticking with clones .

Just going to get them made to my specs a better Aldila graphite shaft 1/2 longer reg. flex , mid-size Winn grips, and 1 degree up .

I'm just beginning my quest in the golf world.
I have purchsed a really nice golf bag Ogio Featherlight.

But invested only $5.00 in my clubs to start. My thought is that I will be investing in individual pieces to fill my Ogio bag as I learn what I want.

I won't list my 5 clubs I got for $5.00. Wouldn't want this to turn into a humor thread

Now back to caddy shack quotes:
Ty Webb: I'm going to give you a little advice. There's a force in the universe that makes things happen. And all you have to do is get in touch with it, stop thinking, let things happen, and be the ball.

hey this is fun!!

glad to see some golf discussion here. well i hardly play any more due to increased time on my mtn bikes, but here's what sitting in my garage gathering dust:

titleist 975f 7.5 degree w/ust shaft
taylormade strong 3 wood
taylormade 320 irons 2-sw, rifle shafts
cameron newport 2 putter

my stuff is fairly old at this point (well for me it is!) but i just don't play enough right now to justify new gear. i used to play in the 6-8 hdcp range, can still hit the ball pretty well but every once in a while my mind and body has a disconnect, and let's not talk about the short game!

Clevelands for me

Hi All,

Since the end of ski season and my knee surgery on April 10, I haven't been around here too much.

I'm about a 6 - 7 handicap and play almost exclusively Cleveland. Why, because they are owned by Rossignol and I'm a Rossi "consultant" and they sell me the Cleveland stuff at the shop rate!

I play the TA7 irons and the stock pitching and sand wedge. Recently, I upgraded from the Launcher 400 to the Launcher Comp 460. I went form a stiff shaft to a regular and am hitting the ball higher and further with a little draw where there used to be a little fade.

Next week, I'm playing in my first "real" tournament of the year, the New Hampshire Net Tournament. I usually get creamed in these because there always is a 15 handicap sandbagger who will shoot 78 for a net 63.

All the best,

Bob

ps, I have had no problem using used clubs. For those relatively new to the game who don't want to spend a lot, look on ebay for used sets. They're ok.

I play 3-5 rounds per week. Play on two mens leagues and as many tournaments as I can.

Driver is Titleist 983k 9.5 degree w/UST Proforce V2 X-flex 44 1/2".
-Swing speed 118 mph, ball speed 163mph, spin rate 2200rpm, launch 12 degrees.

3 wood is Titleist 980f 15 degree w/Fujikura stiff stock (will change to UST X-flex)

2 iron is a hybrid-Titleist 503h 19 degree w/Aldila NV-85 stiff (also changing to UST X-flex, or switch to Sonartec w/UST shaft due to too much offset of the Titleist, which causes me to pull it when mishit).

Irons are 3-E Ben Hogan Apex plus w/tour flighted rifle shafts 6.5-flex, 1 degree upright.

Wedges are 56 degree and 60 degree Hogans w/same shafts as my irons but 2 degrees upright (I'm more upright w/my wedges).

Putter is Hogan BxBII (something like that) Anser type. I also have an Odyssy 2-ball, but have discovered I don't like the lack of feedback a mallett w/insert gives.

Balls are either Bridgestone B330, or Nike One Black.

I also have a set of Ping S59 tour irons which I play and like as well, but prefer the more soft feel of the Hogan's.

Handicap just jumped from 6.7 to 8.0, and I've been as low as a 2.

You wouldn't believe the maintenence required to keep those numbers, and the trouble you get into when you aren't totally on it... For instance, if I hit the ball low on the face my spin rate will go up to 4000+rpm and I'll "balloon" the ball and only carry about 220-230yards w/no roll. It's even more devastating into the wind, or if I hit off center.

WOW. It isn't often that something on this site looks like gibberish to me, much less something with the words flex and stiffness in the sentence. I am out of my league....

My dad's best friend offered me his old clubs if I would buy him a new bag. I therefore have a Big Bertha Driver, and some Ping Irons. I can barely hit the damned ball.

so I played the Bridgestone B330-S - Pretty nice. I still think that the ProV feels the best off the club face though...

in other news. I put a Scotty Cameron Futura in my bag the otehr day. Haven't played it yet, but, but the Monzi might be on the auction block soon. oddly enough my $15 Wal mart putter seems to have been more consistent than the expensive one.

I also closed the deal on the Cleveland wedges...56 and 60. $80 for both of them...

anyone want some toskis?
