Yes, but it also allows his wife to put it all into perspective for us. That is the first time I've read anything with an interview with her (I imagine she wasn't ready before that to say anything). And she knows/knew her husband better than anyone.

And she did a stellar job of that. I posted some comments about her last quote at www.backcountryblog.com.

For those of you who didn't read it her last comment was

"You know, the mountains are full of dangers, and they swallow you up. But mostly, they give."

Powstash, I agree, her last statement is incredibly poignant. And I like what you said on backcountryblog, after quoting her.

Thank you for posting that link.

There should always be numerous places in this world where humans can go to be totally responsible for their own actions and live life to the fullist without some damn lawyer ready to take it all away. Otherwise will all be forced to live in a perfectly safe and controlled virtual environment, also known as a living room with a TV and remote control.

That said there should also be places that are made resonably safe for people just starting out and learning. Even Doug Coombs had to learn to ski down on his first beginner trail. Ok maybe Doug made his first ski run in an intermediate trail.
