This is a very interesting statement that seems to be clear, but in closer examination, isn't. Who's freedom? For what or from what? And so on. This actually isn't about "freedom" at all.
At some point, for the integrity of the communication on the site (and, therefore, it's value as a communication medium) there must be restrictions on the content of posts changing. As a result, we have picked a generous amount of time to allow folks to edit their posts for typos and grammar, etc. After that, it's part of the communication and edits have a very high likelihood of creating time-based discontinuity.
