Donny Osmond, you win...but no speed skiing?

As I type this post in London, the TV's beaming me the beaming face of Donny Osmond showing me around Salt Lake City.
The crisp images of the lake and the mountains, courtesy of the BBC, are magnificent.
Years ago, when the bribery scandal blew up, I swore I'd never look at these Olympics. The corruption seemed such a betrayal, and it all seemed so unnecessary, since Utah is such a remarkable location.
But the Games community seems to be correcting its mistakes, and I'm starting to get positive vibes about the next few weeks and the future of the IOC.
May I therefore wish you all a very very successful Games.

It's just a shame there's no speed skiing (it only featured once at an Olympics - at Albertville/Les Arcs in 1992.
Speed skiing is one of the crowning challenges of skiing.
It should be celebrated.
Surely Utah could have found a track?

Didn't the athletes opt not to compete in Olympic speed skiing due to a speed limit being placed by the IOC at 150mph? Or maybe I am just hearing that one.

I think High Rustler at Alta would have made an interesting course. But they would not be allowed to groom that!

I don't think it's a matter if they could groom it. They would not be allowed to cut down the trees to create a run.

Some of the Chutes off of High Rustler are too narrow to send the groomers down. and probably too steep too.

Hmm. allow a group of snowboarders in for one day to scrap the hill flat (some of the chutes are even too narrow for long skis to side slip down.. Then inject in the water.

Of course that would ruin the run for the rest of us.

dchan, you could get a groomer down the main part of the slope, but you'd have to use the winch for the angle. In no way do I actually believe that a race course, let alone a groomer should be allowed within 100 yards of that area! To much fun for the rest of us! But it would be funny to see somebody on the High Traverse in a speed suit and helmet! Don't let snowboarders ruin my area, please!

Does anybody outside of Utah actually care about the Osmonds? Man, I work in Provo, and it seems nobody really cares here.

SS seems to be in her element. There must be an Osmond "shrine" somewhere in Utah. Too bad she didn't know about it befor her recent vacation...
