There you go, the first step is admitting you have a problem.

Gart's has been on a downhill slide for decades, but the service is worse than ever. But how can I complain when I got a pair of 180 Gravity 68's there last spring for $68 and $15 to mount. I have almost 20 days on those, but my new favorites, I think, will be the 175 Machete Souls I bought from our ski-swap. Phil had told me, but I didn't believe. They are quick, stable, hold a pretty good edge (have to work on the tune) and flew through the spring crud last Monday at Copper. I didn't believe that a 175 based on the same dimensions as my 190 Gold Vapor T-3's could be so versatile and handle uneven snow so well.

Damn, I better get on Ebay and start looking for another pair in case I bend these.... LewBob

PS I bought my first good pair of skis at the little Gart's store on South Broadway in Englewood. 210 Head Masters, 1966. Garts was the first store I ever saw put Head's on sale. I bet they took a ton of sh*t from Head.

I'd be glad to dispose of these for you if you are sold on Souls.

Well without looking, I can say.....1) I just dropped $3100 on used pickup truck today.....2) My insurance payments will now be doubled (I have to carry comprehensive).....3) I need to pay to register it...4) I already have four pairs of Chubbs and.....5) what I really need is a lightweight ski for an AT set up, plus skins, a beacon, shovel, probe and a pack.....6) I don't have a pair of bindings for my Hucksters yet......7) Oh well, I just got a platinum card in the mail today, maybe I SHOULD take a look.

Well I DID look, and to my relief, they were only 180s, they would have to be 190s to interest me. Though skidad2 is a great seller (I've bought from him before, Volants of course) those aren't the '02 Gravity Chubbs as he has them advertised though. Those are from '97 or '98 methinks.

I really can't afford to spend any money on ski gear. I really don't want to increase my debt. It really IS an addiction. It's been kind of funny, but now that I have truck payments, I'm kind of frightened. I really need to work on paying down my debt for a good long while.

At the same time, the mountains have so much snow right now, that not having an AT setup is gnawing at me like a bulldog on a soup bone. I really need to just go hiking.

Sorry, I have been so happy with the T-3's that I want to keep them around, if only for early season cruising. I will get rid of my old 193 PowerKarves, though. Free to anyone who wants them. LewBob

While I'm certainly tempted at this, I was really lusting after the Gold. I have 188 Ti Powers already. I actually had a pair of 193 PKs earlier this season and sold them to a friend who'd liked the pair he'd had, but manged to tear the edge out of each ski (two separate occasions) on the very gnarly razorbacks which were exposed last season.

Thank you, Steve, as I, too, am a ski addict. I will print out your original e-mail, as well as a few others here, and tape them to my skis in my basement just in case my fiance wonders down there. I bought four new pairs of skis this year (three with bindings and one flat: AMC76, World Cup RC, RX-8, and RX-6) and if she figures it out, she may be less than thrilled. My original excuse was going to be that I needed them at the end of this season so that I could hot box them over the summer, but a couple of the posts here couldn't hurt.
Thanks again to each and all of you for your warm welcoming words. I now know that I am in the right place.

Fedex says the 999's arrive Friday, I'm in the dark on the Chubbs, maybe next Tuesday.

Hmm...Were that to be the case, I wouldn't have sold my 2001? Atomic BetaCarv 9.17's on Craigslist for a more than reasonable price a few months ago...And in metro Los Angeles.
