Welcome to Vermont and the Upper Valley. So many others have given you great advice about skiing all the great areas you will be close to, that I won't bother you with my two cents.
That said, I would advise you to consider the fact that you might NOT find yourself living in the WRJ area. I don't know what your financial resources are, so the cost of housing might not be an issue to you. I can only tell you that from Norwich to Sharon, to Windsor, housing costs are likely to be high. This is due to the proximity of Dartmouth College and its ever expanding Medical Center. On the NH side, it's likely to be worse. It seems all those college professors and doctors just LOVE Vermont; and can't wait to build their dream mansions in their own 100 acre woodlot.
On the other hand, they have been squeezing condo developements into areas I would have considered "fringes."
You might find yourself in Thetford or Fairlee (north), both nice communities; or Windsor or Springfield (south), or Royalton, Tunbridge, or Pomfret (west). All these places have a lot of good things in their favor, not the least of which is that they're NOT WRJ, which is, let's face it, one UGLY town.
So, your future ski plans will depend greatly on where you end up living. If you go north, Burke and Jay, not to mention the NH areas in the upper White Mts, are calling you. West, and you might go as far as Stowe or MRG, but more likely Killington. South, and you have Ascutney, Okemo, Sunapee and even Stratton, Bromley or Magic.
Good luck! and once again, Welcome to Vermont!
As long as you become a Red Sox fan, we will not hold your lack of being a native against you.
