Sunshine Apr. 11th-17cm Fresh Pow (Video)!!!

Wait a minute:
Is it April 11th or February 11th????
Oh right.....it's springtime in the Alberta rockies.

I woke up to a fantastic report of 17cm of fresh powder at Sunshine over night.

Call in....cancel all appointments.....get gear....get in truck and go!

The conditions are awesome for this time of year. The powder was a bit heavy lower down but on The Great Divide it was still pretty nice and light. The visability wasn't great due to a bit of fog and snow but who cares when you have snow conditions like this at this time of year .

Most of the powder was compacted by noon and the sun came out reminding us that it is actually spring not winter.

Staying open to the May 23rd weekend shouldn't be a problem.

Here is a small video montage of the day and conditions.
Note the awesome skiing of Paul (?? do I have the name right?) in the vid.
Cheers

I'm pretty bad with names myself and since you did rate me as awesome I'll let it go . Once the visibility improved it was possible to avoid all the spring lumps and really ski the powder. I spent the rest of the day in the Dive after another run after this vid, although tracked it was essentially fresh turns all day and deeper than what's seen in the vid. Last run out there were a number of sluffs which had just occured, several across the Fatboy traverse which we skied over. If anyone is heading out of bounds take note that a lot of point releases are likely to happen anytime it gets warm.

Sunhine still has a lot of great skiing left, never know when one of these big storms will come through and reverse the season back to February for a few days.

Thanks for the feedback
They got another 14cm last night!!!!
It will probably be more crowed with people taking an extra day off for the Easter break.
Sadly my legs haven't recovered yet and I have to DO have to work:

To echo what Thatsagirl said, excellent video and thanks for the post. My season probably concluded last Friday in similar conditions at Abasin, so I'm skiing through post like this

Why wait until next year? Conditions in the Dive are usually the very best at this time of year. Went in for a few more runs down there today, similar deep powder except no fog. The snow on Divide however got hammered by the wind, still nice and soft on Standish though. The ski-out has recovered nicely with the new snow as well. It was still snowing pretty good when I left today.

I admit to watching my skiing countless times on the clip, I've had brief video taken of me before but not for that many turns. I'm glad we ran into each other, still plenty of days left at Sunshine if you're heading up there.

I send you a PM about maybe hooking up.
I will be up with the family next Thurs-Sun.
I can send you a clip of solely your skiing......and at the proper speed
Mine clips I am always tempted to speed up 20%: .

I caught a tip in the soft stuff that day and pulled my quad and ass (glut) when I got spun around.......damn Metron wide tips. Feels like someone punched me hard in both spots. Need a bit of recovery but was tempted to go up this morning.

Thanks.
I am glad I found this forum when doing research for new skiis.

I held off for years before upgrading my crappy old JVC camcorder until I thought cams were good enough quality and true 16x9 was a must.
I think I have finally found was I was waiting for in the Canon Optura 60.

Still fumbling my way through Adobe Premiere Elements.

It looks like it has been snowing most of the day today and they are reporting a total of 30cm in the last 4 days.

I may head up tomorrow to catch the first chair if it continues into Saturday night.

Probably bail shortly after lunch to avoid the easter madness.

What a day! The Dive was outstanding, we had first tracks down the entire place if you don't count the two ski patrol tracks. Anyway we turned was deep powder and face shots all the way down, can't even describe it. If I feel alive I'm heading in tomorrow. :
