Single malts vs blends
Neat vs Splash vs Rocks

My two favorite Single Malts are:

1) Coal Ila 18 year, 12 year is quite good also
2) Ledaig 20 year

Splash of water only
Sipping the Ledaig 20 year as I post. Tasty

I'm very fond of the Balvenie Double Wood. Always neat.

Oh, and a bit off topic but, my favorite whiskey to sip is Blanton's Bourbon. Always neat.

Scotch?
They can't even spell it right, never mind make it right!

Black Bush.
Jamesons
or, for special occassions 10 year old Bushmills single malt.

LaGavulin. Hands down, no contest.

That salty smokey flavour is an acquired taste, but once acquired it's addictive.
I like double-zzalt black licorice too.

LaGavulin is excellent. If you like the Lagavulin try the two I mentioned above. Islay and Tobermory. They aren't as well known but sooo good. I think the Laphroig is an aquired taste - good for those cold winter nights. I like all the ones above (actually I really haven't found one I haven't liked).

Macallan

Highland park. With a splash of water. No ice.

IMO, Lagavulin, and the double wood are also very good, but are more filling.

Cragganmore is a superb speyside malt. Not as popular as some others though.

Well Scotch-wise, Macallan 18, but I love a good Small batch Kentucky whiskey, Blantons or Irish whiskey, Red Breast, 12 y/o.

Phil, do you drink it in the brown paper bag or take it out?
Double wooded Lagavulin is my favorite.

Talisker is excellent.

Ileach - if you can find it - is a very nice Islay scotch for a reasonable price.

same for Poit Dhubh.
Or perhps you had it with a Ghillie Dhu in amongst the heather.

As to readily available state side, I find Springbank and Highland park the best.

An I really do think if you are taking your whisky neat w/o a bit of water you are missing out. Fresh water brings the smells and flavours out..

Unless your drinking Cask strenght a bit o watter has already been added, fyi

: I have trouble telling the wife that the $100/bottle stuff is worth it, but anyone can see by the above prices, that the Lagavulin is a bargain!....Hmm that bottle of Louis XIII is beginning to look not so bad...NOT! I'm saving my money for skiing.
I've had opportunities to try quite a few $100+ bottles. And to be honest, until they got into the near $200 mark, the $50 bottles were better.
With 750ml become "single servings" at $100.00+ it beomes pretty pricey.

Peat Is For Fertilizer!!!!!!!!

Bushmills is made in Occupied Ireland, so I advise against serving it at any IRA fundraising events
post #30 of 110
Ahh, yes I forgot about the good ol' bushmills! GREAT STUFF, I have never seen the 18 before. I have not had the Middletons but my local wine shop was just telling me about it last weekend. Did you ever try the Red Breast 12?
