Just got back yesterday. 6 days at northstar for the USASA Nationals, and then saturday rode 2 feet of fresh at alpine meadows. If there is any way you can get there...get on it!

Phil,

First get a hold of MTT. He know the North Shore and the Reno area like the back of his hand. Plus he is a fun guy to ski with. If it can be done inexpensively(ie really cheap) he will know how and when to do it. He judt might take you up on your deal too.

I skied and hung out with the guy in Utah this year quality person and he is itch'in for bears to hit the North Shore.

I have never ever called anybody a name on this forum but I'm going to start today. Go ahead and report me to the moderators!

Phil,
You are a big cry baby!
Get the ticket, get on the plane and have some fun!
And, by the way, how's your wife's knee?
You might want to check into SMF as a landing point alternative to RNO. If you come, it will snow! MTT (mike) is in the basin at Verdi, but if you end up on this side of the range, its a 1.5 hour commute to the slopes, and arrangements could be made....

I was just going to say that Cirque. Phil, go into Sacramento and rent a car. They are cheap there. I has a 4wd Grand Cherokee for 10 days for $250, so I know a weekend will be affordable. You can stay at the Blackjack Inn in South Lake for like $49 a night with a small breakfast. It is do-able.

I saw your post. My Trailer situation is not conducive to guests. But I can Ski with you during the Weekend Proper. I could also Run you from the Reno Airport to a nice cheap North Shore Hotel. (And Back)

Want me to look to see whats available? Might be able to find somthing in the 60$ a night range.

I need to check but I do not belive Reno is an option cuz there is no shuttle sevice between Reno and Ski Areas. (Stops March 27th)

But the Snow is Awsome @ Mt. Rose right now!! Others are getting rain down low but thats going to change tonight. It is the weekend to show up
post #8 of 25
Phil is right!

Airfare is almost unobtainable from the east coast. Rooms in Reno are up$$ I guess everyone on the planet is comming here? Reno is last year of Bowling so that is filling up the Casino's and Airlines. There are rooms around the Northshore but they are not giving them away/ Even the Tahoe Biltmore is booked.

Phil take a look @ next weekend the Weekend before easter. It might be better for a quickie to
Tahoe. It is going to snow prety much all this week, so it will be good.

BTW: I don't know if any saw my TGR post but I blew my knee apart last week in the Terrain park @ Alpine. I attempted to Ski Apline Saturday and was unable to make 1 Pow run. I went down three times on tame terrain and retired to the Bar. I may take another shot at it Today or Tommorow morning, but it looks like my season might be over.

Phil I'm clearly a newbie to this forum although I've been a naughty naughty many year lurker ( you all seemed so much smarter than me). However WTFH could maybe vouch for me from the other forums where I hang with the same handle. Anyway to the point I am flying out to the area on Wed and am staying for a bit over a month. I am renting a condo which I could let you have bed space in for a reasonable price, it's in Squaw Peak Condo's which if I recall correctly from last year are very close to the Squaw Valley cable car (no car rental needed) certainly walking distance. I'm flying to LAX and getting $234 AA flight to Reno and $95 round trip transfer through No Stress Express oh and my UK flight cost around $500. If any help.

Sorry to hear about your knee, that just sucks.

Phil...Phili to Sacramento is yielding the lowest airfare (Continental Airlines I think)...

...if you pull it off and you need some help feel free to pm me....I live & work 5 min from Reno-Tahoe Intl....and I'll be going to Alpine, Kirkwood or Rose Sat & Sunday (usually game time decisions based on snow & road conditions and where my friends are going and most importantly, where my wife wants to go)....

...don't be shy...

This is for all./ I am just back from the ROSE. Heavy wet snow. I took out the 194 LP's I strait lined most of Jackpot on cut up MANK! My goggles almost came off on one run in cut up sierra cement, but there was never any doubt that I was safe on these MONSTERS!! GOD WHAT A RIDE!! The knee held up. I will be in the line-up tomorrow.

194 LPs are not a play thing! Think 60' cigarette boat on the open ocean.
I did some stuff today

INEXPENSIVE LODGING NORTH LAKE TAHOE

Tahoe Biltmore in Crystal Bay, NV includes breakfast www.tahoebiltmore.com Most of the free resort shuttles stop at this location.

Apres Ski Club Lodge at 8473 Rainbow Ave, Kings Beach, CA: $15 bunk/$20 semiprivate room ($55 annual membership fee & semiprivate rooms are payable online with PayPal, hot tub, free WiFi) www.apres.org About 3 blocks from free resort shuttle stops (Kings Beach 7-Eleven at 8593 North Lake Blvd or Kings Beach Rite Aid at 8245 N Lake Blvd)

Please note that Apres Ski Club Lodge is a lodge where you bring your own sleeping bag/pillow/towel/soap NOT a 4 star hotel so you will have to adjust your expectations accordingly. Go to the website to check out photos of the lodge. If you can handle staying at a lodge, this could be a good option as your membership is good for 12 months so you would have an inexpensive place to stay at Tahoe next season. You must call/email the lodge director to get door code before you arrive.

Ahhhh...No. But..I have a Kton pass and free lodging and food if I stay east. So all it really costs me is gas back and forth..and now that Finndog backed out on coming to VT with me....I have to pay 100% of the gas.
Geez Phil -- just because I'm not allowed to go to Vermont this weekend with you.....

squaw pass is about 1200. kirkwood is about 320. heavenly pass is probably one of the cheapest passes in tahoe. Plus you get to ski vail for free.

Thanks for the heads up Agent.5 . I checked out the websites and like you say that is a great deal (always a good thing for a Scotsman ). Looks like that is the way I will go.

Makes it a better deal than my ASC pass here. Wish I could say the same thing about the real estate market out there: .
