Goodbye to Rick, LM, Gonz, Lars - Page 7

Thank You Laurel Hill Crazy. I have read Epic Ski for over two years now.I am posting because I am alarmed by negative changes and the fact that my friend E-mailed me Private Messages from two Moderators which show that they lied.I think this is very disturbing. This is why I registered.I enjoyed Epic Ski two years. I am not the best Word-Smith but Ihave made my living by skiing. I am concerned when one of my ex-training partners was given a Time out by a moderator who was intimidated by his knowledge. that is not a good sign.P.S.How do you quote other posts? I can not figure this out yet.Thank You very much.

I posted it. It was deleted. The post before it was deleted.

vlad & shaw

Anti race .... shaw come out of the haze. Epic is not anti race, if they were, I woulda' been on the first train out of town years ago.

Vlad is a great guy who gets carried away and got a bit of juice tossed his way. So have I on occasion when I got a bit "wordy".

We will probably do some turns if he is in NJ next year ... if we get snow.

Vlad and I have done a bit of snot slinging over the past months and he takes it quite well .... a "hissy fit" that lasts a day and nice post that says OK ... I got over it. Me too.

Come in with a chip on your shoulder? Your choice.

Gary Dranow ... came in to push "product" .... then moved on .. he did share quite a bit while he was here. I expect that he will return next season too.

Oh? Do tell? I'd like some very specific information on this so-called "lying". Especially if it is me to which you refer. I take my integrity very seriously, and don't take lightly to being called a liar by anyone.

Furthermore, if I am one of those "small mountain" level IIs, I'd like to know that, too. I ski out of Copper Moutain and dchan skis out of Sugar Bowl. They aren't Vail, but they aren't Mt. Holly, Michigan, either.

So, I think you'd better back this up if you're going to make these accusations. And it had better be good.
For the record and the integrity of the thread, my post 180 should be between shaw's 181 and 182, it was a reply to 181.

A few posts were deleted and put back up again today, and ended up out of order.

good grief!

I haven't posted since the "scsa" days, but whaddya' know, as soon as I come out of hiding, there's another macho man trying to shove the koolaid down people's throats. I'm a PT and my dad is an SSD. If people honestly believe the manure that Vlad posts in the Fitness or Technique forums, then I agree that this site has gone downhill!

FWIW, a couple posts were removed for review based on the Ts & Cs (and in the absence of a number of the moderators, including both dchan and me). They were returned after review. I am not sure why they are not in the proper order.

Shaw, see my post in the Lurker No More thread.

You and Vlad also show no respect for others. I wonder how many members would like to have their PM's shown around, then posted here? Posting PM's is like spitting in the punchbowl: you can do it, but should you? Tacky, really tacky.:

Find another forum to poison. I don't think this is the right one for you. If we're such a lousy community, why bother? Go to TGR, if you can, and see how long you last there. :

I hear Paula's is looking for a few good posters.

uh oh i may have killed your thread, bonni.i hope all the good work of the operators of epicski can show the folks that left and are missed can see the good here and come to be a part again .and show new members this is a forum you can pose a question , that may seem simplistic or understated and still get a civil response. also maybe members such as bonni and other who have been here a long time can help moderate discussions from within using a peer approach.

Another troll. After 2 YEARS of reading you're JUST becoming alarmed by negative changes? You're worried about a forum you never participated in? Sounds more like you're looking to start another flame war. Troll .

THESE are the kinds of things that bring the forum down. And nobody is intimidated by your friend's knowledge. It sounds like he thinks a little too highly of himself.

Okay, back to our regularly scheduled program...

........

I think maybe some people never took part of, nor had to put up with the Usenet skiing group mess...:
That one should be required reading....

I have read about half of the responses on this post and I thought I would chime in.

There are lots of reasons why someone might come here, Information, entertainment, comraderie. For me its been all 3 at times. Originally it was cool to talk about skiing. I love the tech stuff and resort stuff. Rarely do I encounter someone who knows as much about skis and resorts as I do. Here I sometimes feel undereducated, it was refreshing. In fact I was shocked when I met thatsagirl and found that not only was she familiar with all of the ski areas I was, but she had been to most of them. So that was fresh and exciting for a while.

But in the end most people want to be entertained, and the same stuff over and over became less and less entertaining. So I trolled some for a while. If I have 5 minutes at work to read something I want to laugh. Gonzo was so much fun to read, and when I met Phil I asked about him since I had not seen him around anymore. Despite my obvious sarcasm here I started to meet people from the board and liked all of them. In the end of the day we all share the same love of a great sport. I may troll since it comes naturally to me from game forums but I know there is a fine line not to cross. Unfortunately someone has to decide what that line is and enforce it. Since TGR has shown that no rules works for them I think people intimidated by that come here because they feel more comfortable. I personally go to both as do many.

Whenever you cater to a large number of people some will always get mad and nothing can be done about that to some degree. Its sad but its reality. I look forward to walking the line on this board in the future and meeting more bears to ski with. The elitist attitude some people have here is the least refreshing part of the board. Everyone I have skied with has been very skilled and frankly in the future I will not hesitate to ski with others from the board, even Phil: I am kidding it makes me sad that Phil was at Mad River a few times when I was and we did not hook up until late this year. So cmon people lighten up and have fun, thats what its all about. Summer is not that long, there is always next season

I agree that folks come and go for different reasons, and to a certain extent that will never change.

That said, of the 10,000 or so registered members, a relative handfull have stayed the course over time. I don't think that when these types of posters decide to "bow out" we can simply dismiss their departures as the "normal" in and out flow that one would expect on a forum such as EpicSki.

Gee whiz, thanks, Alfonse. But now you're bored with me?

As to the point of this thread: I hope that those who left on their own will decide to return someday. It is sad when long-time members no longer feel comfortable here.

It's too much information to spew back here. Pony up your $20 and find out.:
That's the least attractive proposition I've heard in, like, ever, dude.
Twenty dollars (US, I assume) so I can participate in web site gossip? Yikes.
I went to high school, once was enough.

I joined this site a while back because I was interested in reading about skiing. I think the lounge is just a perk for help in supporting the site. Even if the lounge didn't exist I would still be getting enough good info for my $. If I ever left this place it would be because it no longer held any interest for me. If I don't like someones info or point of view I usually just ignore it. This place is like a market, take what you want from it and leave the rest.

How many rules did the Gonz break
I paid the $20, because I received good advice from the site. The lounge was not part of the decision. It definitely can be a time waster.

sometimes the lounge is the lunge.

Sorry you feel that way, Old Dude.

Gossip? Perhaps. I guess if I didn't give a damn about the people who left, I could have kept quiet.

But while the discussion that led to people's leaving was in the Lounge (which you can't access because you don't feel the need to support this site with the cost of a cheap dinner for two at Applebee's: ), and those leaving were either unable to access the Lounge due to banning OR left and just might pop in for a looksee on occassion, AND this thread just might bring some Enlightenment to the issues surrounding the departure of people who are my friends (all of them who I've skied with or met), I see no reason to tell the whole involved story to someone (not you, but coug) when they can just as easily go there like countless others do and get the skinny for themselves.

It's easy to donate a few bucks to help maintain the expenses of running this site if you want to know that stuff. If you don't care about the Lounge, then that's ok, too. Still, it sounds as if you're sniffing at the donation itself, because I see that you haven't pinched the nickel till the buffalo shits, either.

You've been around a while. You know that we actually meet each other and ski together. The need to talk to friends about Other Things was pretty strong in this community where people see each other not as internet objects but as real people. When your friends 'go away', don't you think a 'Goodbye' is appropriate? Or do you just turn your back and never think of them again?

I know you think the internet should be free, but it isn't, and since there are no POP UP ADS, annoying crap to delete or stare at on the side, it has to cost someone to run this. I find value in everything on here, so I support it. It doesn't break the bank. I get less value from a tank of gas, which costs twice as much as a year of Epic. I pay it happily because I enjoy this site more than any other.:

By the way.......'Dude'? Sounds like you're still in high school, just like me.
