We just got back from a spring break trip to Colorado and had a great time at Snow Mountain Ranch, a YMCA camp 12 miles from Winter Park. I was able to get in several days of great skiing at Winter Park which had a good combination of family-friendly runs and enough challenge for my 40+ bones.

More important though was all the things we were able to do at the camp - XC skiing, ice skating, etc. - that instilled a great love of winter in my young daughters and even my southern wife. The cost was low ($125 per night including breakfast) and food was decent by Y camp standards. We event got to hear a presentation from a 10th Mountain Division veteran.

Admittedly it is not a resort, but families should consider this place as an option for an active ski vacation.
