Gear Regrets 05-06 - Page 2

My only regret was a pair of Tecnica Diablo Fire boots. I bought these in my normal size 26.5 and after just a few days found out I should have sized down. Now they just sit in my closet. I replaced them with Nordica Hot Rods definitly no regrets here, one of the best boots I have owned.
Hottronic foot warmers for me and my wife- no regrets
Volkl AC4- no regrets
Nordica GTS team boots for my daughter- no regrets
North Face soft Shells for wife and daughter-no regrets

Regrets for equipment 2005/2006

Salomon Foils - I bought these to be a Pocket Rocket clone and tried so hard to like them (what was i thinking????). Nope they suck big time. Luckily the hardware vendor is a friend and replaces these misfits with 2005 Rossi B3's. Oh Yeahhhh. Now were talking!!! Great save.

Pair of 1995 Chubbs 75 $ CDN mint and some tele binders...score.

2004 Garmont Gara teleboots...oops too small!! Good deal done wrong...Boot fitter says no worries....we'll tune em up. (I sure hope so?)

mint BCA tracker transceiver < 270 CDN ...good deal.

Good year for us canucks ...yes!

Regrets:

Dabello Avanti boots.

NOT purchasing AC4's at the beginning of the season. Skied again yesterday on some beautiful early morining carpet grommers in Park City and pure slop in the afternoon. They worked flawlessly. I haven't found a condition they don't like yet. Could be the best all-around ski ever. :

Purchase three pairs of boots for my wife. She couldn't get behind a boot that was "tight or real snug" in the shop until I pushed her on boot #3. She dropped one more shoe/shell size, hurt for a few runs and said they were great by the end of the day. Skied on the first notch of the buckles the entire time. I said welcome to the world of a boot that fits. My wife is an intermediate/advanced skier and she's in what most would call a race fit. I call it a good fit. After dealing with this I think the public is generally mislead/misinformed on fit. Wifes street shoe is an 8 1/2 and her boot is marked at a 6 1/2. 24.4

Head Monster 88 Didn't get to demo before buying. A great ski but just not my thing.

My only gear regret for the year is that I didn't ski enough days on some Head Super Shapes.

That will be remedied next season.

Skis for my girlfriend,
Boots for my gf,
Poles for my gf (those fancy Atomic carbon ones),
Ski jacket for my gf,
Helmet for my gf...
she wouldn't go ski with me once but she wants to get engaged...: shoulda saved the money for a ring...
sold my old Atomics GS:11+binders for $400 and got a new pair of Solly 10 2V LABs+binders for $330, no regrets there, a pleasant surprise actually

Loose her NOW before she costs you a ton in the divorce. : Mark my words, if you dump her now, you are getting off cheap all it will be costing you is some ski gear that you can resell. If she won't ski with you now what makes you think she will later?

She's not that bad at all, she actually wanted to go (I just thought it's pretty ironic she couldn't) but she just changed jobs late December and didn't have any vacation, anyways, she should have waited till April...

Tell her she gets the ring when she skis a 4-day weekend with you at Alta! And doesn't cry! And fervently wishes to ski again! And then stick the ring in her glove to find.. because, after all, she better get used to the feeling of having that ring in a ski glove!

Boots! I only have one big regret for the gear this season. I went shopping for boots, found a good boot fitter and thought I should try a few more brands (not carried by said boot fitter). Realized I loved the boots he had, went back and he no longer had my size.
Shoulda bought them when I had the chance. Now I'm back to square one!

Yep, I agree. I already thought of that and bought her some mittens. She's actually looking forward to go next year after I showed her some pics from Zermatt and Meribel, till then, no ring.

The only regret I have is not making more use of my new quiver. Headed up for a night ski, expecting fresh snow for the new mid-fats only to find it had all been packed down and would be perfect for the skinnier 2004-5 Volant Genesis Silver 180's. Took instead only the 2004-5 Genesis M's, 115-81-104 185's which did pretty good but slid around a bit on the ice (edges are a bit dull from a Jan. 4 day ski trip). Picked up both at a pre-season ski sale for $600 (Silvers had demo bindings).

Hauled both the Silvers and M's on the trip to BigWhite and skied the Silvers only once, one morning when the powder was not deep. The snow kept dumping and soon got too deep for them and the rest of the week.

The '95 190 Chubbs are peacefully waiting in the basement, tuned up, waxed, and waiting to be taken out for another spin after 10 great years of service.

Moral of the story: Its only a quiver if you take it along!

.......

Sorry my itinerary was a little off during your expedition to Maine...Phil, would have enjoyed talking gear while on the lifts

...

A true regret this season....was putting off a boot purchase on some Speedmachine 10s..: Tried them on in December!:...and didn't realize how well they fit. Now with them being tried on for several more months by every conceivable dimension of foot, the liners were a little stretched in places that would have been tighter with my feet, thus I've added some foam pads in places....but I'll just order another Nordica liner in the Fall along with maybe making an attempt to wear-in an Intuition over the summer...

I was driving along on a country road and tried to downshift to 3rd gear, but accidentally went into reverse.

I have regretted using that gear ever since the transmission repair bill!

(stupid joke and it never happened, I have an automatic.)

gear

1. bought new I Spy Soldier Goggles (for flat light), they broke twice in lst month. Sent back to factory and they replaced them. Head band was too short and popped the lense out when pulling over helmet and they broke where the bank was attached to goggle. When I got new pair I took an old band from a pair of Briko's and my wife sewed on to lengthen strap. I now have the only "I Spy - Briko" head goggle strap in skidom - cool and works.

2. Bought the wife a pair of 7.5 Atomic Izors ($350) demos. She hated them. Good new is I sold them for 350 also.

3. The girl who bought the Izors let my wife try her MEX"s which my wife loved. Bought new pair of MEX's 155 on Epic from a Bear in Colorado for $320, that included shipping. She loves them.

4. Bought a demo pair of Fischer RX9"s, love um.

Need for next years trips into Mt. and Canada: New boots and powder ski's.

It's like realizing it's football season in December.
Dang Diz... get out of my head!!!
But hey, we're gonna have fun when the snow falls again!!!

Volant Genesis Silvers $158
Neox 412s $95...

Nope, no regrets at all, and thank-you Ebay!!!!

Dean.

I bought new AC'3 this year they are much better then I am, so at the end of the day when I'm tired they are not forgiving.

I have 3 pair of boots and I keep wearing the one's I got on ebay for $25 the nice new ones are dusty I have been having a real issue buying new boots. And I don't dare let my wife see me bring in pair 4

But I will endure and keep buying

Boot Roulette

Purchased 3 new boots this year - 2 for wife, 1 for me. None fit.

Norica W Beasts for wiffy - too cushy
Salomon 8's for wiffy, with total customization, $1200 - too wide
SpeedMachine 12's for me - sharp pain accross left instep - unfixable

We'll get a full refund on my wife's $1200 customization project.

With that, and my SpeedMachine 12's, we're headed to Surefoot, for a foamy experience. Odds? 50-50, at best!

Regrets:

1. Not buying slalom race skis YEARS ago! My P60 SLs have become the most cherished and well used skis in my quiver. Even bought a second pair last month.

2. Forgetting how much fun my old Vertigo G20Ws are. Finally took them out for the first time in 4 years. Yippee!!!!

3. Waiting til the last 2 weeks of the season to get back on snowblades and snowboard. I missed soooo much fun this year.

Only regret is not getting a boot-fitting sooner. New boots that accommodate my bone structure and stance has made such a difference in competence and confidence.

Purchases this year:
Kerma poles - $7 at a ski swap (That more than doubled the amount of $ invested in the purchase of poles for myself in 42 years of skiing.)

No regrets
