Heading for Big Sky 4/13

Due to the sorrowful fact that my beloved Snowbowl will be closed for the season after 4/9, and the happy fact that I have a free place to stay in Big Sky (and perhaps a free day pass too), I will be driving out there on the 12th, and skiing the 13th (maybe even the morning of the 14th).

I've never skied there, and though I have some ideas from looking at the map of where I'll ski (off the tram and the Challenger lift), it would be nice to have some knoweledgeable company to show me around.

I'm not a great skier, but I am fairly competant, pretty strong, and can keep up with all but the hardest charging skiers at Snowbowl. Will any locals be about and willing to show a Missoulian-Snowbowlian the goods?

I'm planning on taking the 13th or 14th off to ski Big Sky since it's the last week. I'll keep you updated on which I take. Be sure to bring some good cruising skis, some good fat slop skis (the V2 Chubbs will be ideal) and a generous supply of yellow wax.

Hi volantaddict,

would you ski with someone on K2s?

I might be able to take off from work for a few hours .

Ya know, I haven't been using the V2s in the slop and corn we've had as of late, '01 Chubbs are my preferred spring ski. I suppose I could hot wax both pair and do a comparison. Speaking of wax, parafin works tremedously well for warm snow conditions. Speaking of which, I need to slap a fresh coat on my sticks for tomorrow.

It'd be great to take some turns with you. I've gathered we each came to Montana via Oregon, and have found the views you've expressed in the lounge to be perceptive.

Let me know when you'll be there and where to meet.

I ski with people on K2s quite often. My first pair of skis were K2 J-Twos back in '74.

It would be good to meet as many Bears as can make it. I've yet to meet anyone from epicski other than paedde, who's from Switzerland!

I will be at the mountain at 9 AM. Conditions are awesome right now. Send a PM if you like and we can come up with a plan for the day.

VA - watch out for Little Bear - she rips!

If you get the chance, ski at Moonlight Basin as well! We had a BLAST there in January, and were treated like royalty! Nice place! We got lift tickets in town for $35, regularly $38, so I imagine they are probably almost obscene now.

VA -

I still have a stash of Oregon wines I had purchased to take to the Gathering (which I ended up not attending.) Do you prefer red or white?

Also, since you're going to be skiing with Little Bear be sure to bring a helmet.

Rio, are you coming to Big Sky too? I hope so --- let's have some fun!

(I prefer red or white )

Well I've skied Moonlight before. The place is very, um......groomed, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Absolutely, I wouldn't want to hurt any trees. (just kidding, I don't see any reason to hurt a helmet by placing it between my head and hard objects):

Little Bear -

It looks good for me being able to break away from work that day. VA & I will try not to bore you by talking about Oregon too much.

Drop by MLB and I will show you the easy way off the Headwaters side. Not much grooming up there.

The skiing today was amazing. 1-2' new, soft underneath. Face shots by the dozens.

Looks to be a wet and white week.

Thanks, but I haven't skied Big Sky yet, and have a friend that will comp me there.

Besides, I'm really disappointed to hear they're not grooming the chutes.
