Looking for a new powder ski for next year. Currently on Salomon Super Mtn 186. Love them, ride at Taos, Wolf Creek, once a year trip at Kirkwood. Solid advanced to expert. I am 5'10" 165. What length?
I've ridden both and if you're looking for a powder ski, the PR is way better than the Rex. Since you already have the SM, I would opt for the PR's. The Rex's are more of an all mountain ski than it is a powder ski. The PR's have way better float and better performance in the soft stuff.
The Rex does ok in powder, but you just don't get that same floating on a cloud sensation like you do on a real powder board. Plus the PR's are a more fun ride IMHO
What Wizard said...He was spot on. I have a 184 EX and a 175 PR and they are quite different...the PR being the wider, better pow-pow sled. The 175's are fun, if you like trees and prefer shorter to longer, high speed turns. You might consider an Inspired (89-mm in the waist) or B3 (94-mm wasit) as a happy medium between the two skis you mentioned.
