I completely agree with you and have no problem laughing here at the funny things people do on the slopes. Maybe the thread should have been named, "The funny things people do on the slopes."
My issue is that visitors come to Summit County and often complain they are treated badly by "locals". From my experience, it's not the "locals" that plan to live here forever and have invested time and money into the community that are the culprits. It's the "locals" that come for a season and for some reason automatically consider themselves better than visitors and think it's cool to call the them derogatory names like, gaper and touron.
I realize that everybody here has their own definition of a gaper and some are less derogatory than others. But in my experience, those who are the problem in this county, define it as people who do the things that anyone would do when they are on vacation. Like, drive slowly because they are lost or because they are gaping at the mountains.
And, because I have so many guests from around the country, even Texans
: , I have experienced exactly how they are treated by "locals" purely because of their plates or their accents.
A friend of mine decided to do something about it and created a program called, "Friends Welcome" which I've heard has been very successful at raising visitor polling numbers. And, I'm confident that the "locals" who are not seasonal understand how important it is to treat visitors with respect.
So, there you go. Have the last word and tear me up at will.
