Thank you SouthLake. We will be at Marriott's Timber Lodge. They say it's 2 blocks from the casinos and right next to the gondola. We'll have to think about a rental car. I don't know if we should consider skiing other resorts or sticking with Heavenly the whole week. Also, my parents might join us. They are low intermediates. We'll have to investigate which resorts might suit them best if they do join us.
The Sierra-at-Tahoe and Kirkwood shuttles both troll the Heavenly Village perimeter road on a regular schedule. Diamond Peak and Mt. Rose are 30 and 45 minutes in the opposite direction. If you're looking for a change of scenery, any of those choices you'll be happy with.
I haven't skied Heavenly on a weekend for a L-O-N-G time due to the crowds there... meaning I'm not the best person to comment on how crowded it is on weekends. But if it's anything like I remember... ugh.
Sierra has some nice, long, wide beginner/intermediate runs and the crowds don't get too out of hand.
