Seeking Recommendation on Tuning Kits

Hello,

New member here, and new to ski racing this year too.

I am interested in purchasing the tuning tools I will need to self tune my race skis. I have a pair of Elan GSX 182. I expect to primarily race GS & Super G in Masters competitions in the Tahoe area.

Because I have no tools, I've been looking primarily at tuning kits. The two kits I'm currently comparing are the Beast Elite Kit & the SVST World Cup Tuning Kit.

I would love to get some feedback on the following questions: How do these two brands of tuning equipment compare? What about the respective value these two kits offer? Are there any other kits I should be considering? Is the kit approach, while offering some initial savings, actually a bad idea for the long-term?

On my last question, I imagine a couple drawbacks to the kit idea are a) with experience I may discover that certain tools included in the kit are not the ones I would ideally like (e.g., kit comes with rectangular brushes and I discover later I'd rather use oval ones), and b) the kit locks you into a single brand of tuning equipment. Based on my limited research to date it seems that the reputation of a brand is not uniform across the entire tool line (e.g., "Beast has a great 'ABC' tool, while I really like SVST's 'XYZ' ").

More details on me: I have no experience tuning skis. However, I am a bit of a perfectionist and mechanically oriented "DIY" type. I'd rather spend more money up front and get the right set of tools for the long haul than tiptoe into tuning with lower quality equipment and later wish I had spent a little more for the right tool.

Thanks for the guidance assistance!

I think you are on the right track. The best "kit" for you will likely be a collection of products from different sources. The kits I sell are more general or starter kits. A racing kit would be pieced together based on what specific goals you have. Take the advice you will get from the group of experts that hang out here and pick and choose what fits your needs and budget. I sell products from SVST, Wintersteiger and FK-Tools. If they have any products you like that I don't already carry on my site, write me and I can likely offer you a better price.

I also have tuning tips on my site.
