Skiing in the Old West. Rumor has it that Harry Longabaugh (“the Sundance Kid”) and Harvey Logan (“Kid Curry”) enjoyed backcountry skiing in the Caribou Mountains.

BIGGER IS BETTER. A friend told me that he heard a rumor that Vail is planning to build a new lift and parking garage. The lift is an "ultra" high-speed, 20-pack chair that will transport 100,000 people per hour from Vail Village to Ptarmigan Point. The garage is a 10-level "mega" garage with elevators servicing L3-L10. My friend told me that his source told him that he heard some guy in a chalet at Vail last year say: "Our new lift will put more people on the hill per hour than Chamonix does in a week. It will be like ants swarming a sugar cube."

3 "never been skied" pairs of 1984 Volkl S1s 200 cm were discovered 6 weeks ago in the basement of an abandoned house in Tonopah Nevada. 2 pairs of "never been skied" 1984 Marker M40 bindings were found sitting on top of a dresser in a sealed plastic bag next to the skis.

Pretty sure they would have just called it skiing.

Edit- except I think many skiers in the days prior to lift service were part of snowshoeing clubs and referred to the activity generically.
