Jay Peak-3/2 MRG-3/3

Jay Peak, March 2nd
I was able to escape for a couple of days and head up to northern Vermont for some excellent skiing. Stayed at the Wyndham hotel in Burlington. Nice hotel with a great view of Lake Champlain. My friend was staying there on buisness and I came along for the free lodging and transportation. I decided to go up to Jay Peak on Thursday morning. It took about 1.5h to get up there but the ride was enjoyable in the brand new Equinox rental. My first time to Jay Peak so I decided to take the Tram to the summit. They say it takes 6.5m for the tram ride but it seems like a longer wait then that. I usually got there right after a tram left and I was always able to get on the next tram. They really pack you in there with 60 people but the views are great. Once at the top I headed down the Vermonter to Green Beret. This is a relatively steep open drop then I headed into the nearest glades I could find. I was pleasently suprised by the amount of untraked powder in there. After this run I knew it was going to be a great day. For the most part I stayed in the glades all day. There was plenty of powder to be found. For the most part, any groomed trails were fairly icy. Some of the more exellent runs were Timbuktu, Valhalla, and Everglade. I could stay on those all day long.

We were going to go to Sugurbush on Friday but when we got there the entire mountain was shut down because of high winds. When we called over to MRG they took pride in the fact that they were running at 100%. We explored most of the mountain and found that pretty much every run was the same. Bumps, scratchy here and there , and rocks. I can see how this place would be a blast on a powder day. I was not terribly impressed with their glades skiing. Of course I am comparing it to the glades at Jay so that may be unfair. Although the positives are the price, the moguls, no snowboarders, and not crowded.

I heard things got better by Sunday. As in 2 feet. Of course I was elsewhere skiing on ice.
