Lake Tahoe - Up to 6 feet new snow - How was your weekend?

Thread Starter
Lake Tahoe areas just received up to 6 feet of new snow. More snow on the way (see NWS forecast below)

How was your weekend? What were the skiing conditions like? Where were you skiing (resort, state, country)?

I am planning to go up to Tahoe next weekend.

Forget La Nina - bring on El Nino.

Looking to the past to tell the future- March of 1974 and what may be in store for the western U.S. and Canada
By Michael Bakke - Mar 01, 06 01:09 PM

..."Many places in the Sierra Nevada received close to 3 feet of snow, with close to 2 feet of snow throughout much of British Columbia. If you thought that was a lot of snow, tonight into Thursday another storm is coming on shore, and the models show yet another one next week. Take a look below; the first image is Thursday’s storm, lasting into Friday. The second image is a storm that could come into the west coast on Monday. Looks like for the west coast March is coming in like a Lion. By the time these two storms are over with, as much as 5 or 6 feet (that’s right feet) of snow is possible in some locations."

How will this years La Nina differ from past La Ninas?: Part 1
By Michael Bakke - Feb 28, 06 01:11 AM

..."The huge storms that will pound the California coast over the next 10 days are atypical of La Nina and more typical of an El Nino--this is a surprise. This means that we will go back and try to coorelate this year's La Nina with a particular La Nina year that might have had huge late February or March snows in the Sierras, not just the Cascades. When we find this year, it will help us predict the future weather. Up until now, the winter of 1973-74 has been our favorite year."

Oh man I flew in on tuesday when the first snow was falling. Wed was bright and sunny and the snow was perfect. Around 2am wed night it kicked up again and didn't let up until like 3pm the next day. So one day to enjoy the view and the sun, and one day in the powder. I was at northstar both days and had a blast. Although the sx9s in the powder wasn't the best match but I managed.

My weekend? Well, I'm in the middle of my second 12 hour shift in two days, and I tweaked my knee on Friday, so I guess about the same as yours.:

Ack! I tried to post a great IR SAT pic of the incoming front, but all I can get to post is a little red x. I'm stupid.

OOH, I'm getting smarter!!!

We got some great days last week. This weekend was fun, but only a little new (3") to soften things up. There's the possibility of a very big dump coming up for later in the week.

Not an epic 6', but good just the same, and promise for the future.

The wife and I were at Sierra at Tahoe,SAT, on Fri and Sat. Fri was nothing but powder. At least knee deep and that was on piste. Very little grooming. It was snowing but not as cold as predicted. We skied mostly west bowl. Sat was a blue ski day early then a bit overcast. More grooming but snow conditions were nice. We decided to ski the chop and small bumps. Had fun and getting better on the rough. Next weekend should be great as well with snow probably for the next few days. Channel 2 Fox, just related white out conditions at So. Shore.
