So what's the deal with the racing program at Hidden Valley. I was there yesterday with my son. I go there because I felt it was reasonably safe to ski there with a 5 year old. At other local mountains I can only concentrate on blocking from the rear so he doesn't get flattened by (usually) a snowboarder. note: I snowboard too, so I know its not all snowboarders. But head to Mountain creek one day & check out the beginners trail.
Yesterday at HV, it was the race training that was out of control. I witnessed as the coach, with around ten skiers, 8 to 10 years old, skied full speed within about 20 feet to the entrance of the beginners chair lift. There were, as is typical, beginners pushing slowly in every direction. 3 of the race kids in an attempt to avoid another skiier, collided with each other, one of them landing on my Wife's skis. The kid's were all laughing, since no one was hurt. There was a coach following up in the rear, he just came by & shrugged as his skiers untangled themselves form each other.
I was a little annoyed. If my son were standing where my wife was, the skier would not have just bounced off him. My wife probably has 60 pounds over these kids, but my son is half their size.
You would think the coach would have been able to read all those "SLOW" signs.
