another epic wa day thanks to epicski

Been lurking a long time on epic, years actually. Only got the nerve to join about a year ago. What a year it has been!

A short summary?

-Jumped on the new super short carver technology on advice of friends made on epic (168 volkl allstar) (mainly cirquerider - thx Tom!)

-mastered the technology primarily from tips by epic masters and viewing videos discovered via epicski mainly italian(thanks nobody) and canadien(thanks candude) demo teams and :HH how to be an expert skier 1/2. Pretty radical stuff for an old time hardcore PSIA coolaid guy!

-made friends with a couple of yankee fans.....seriously, go figure.

-talked about golf

-had people tell me they were sorry my dog died and mean it.....

.....but most importantly it's about the people. Since I ramped my skiing up to a high level about 15 years ago the biggest problem is finding ski chums who can keep up with me or equally important, push me to ski my best. It just can be a little frustrating. Skiing alone, I am always afraid to really let it fly...no one there to pick me up so to speak. As a result I spend a lot of time practicing the stuff in the videos(not a bad thing, improving balance is the heart of expert skiing IMHO)

Now that I have given up ski school and PSIA the group of instuctor ski buds is gone. Skiing alone I often spend time on the hill just doing drills rather than going for it. Still better than a day at the office mind you, but not what a day on the hill can be. Skiing with the family is awesome, but getting them all together for a day on the hill can be difficult(and pricey!!)

Thanks to epicski I now have another newfound partner in crime...oldeasternskier. Hooked up today at wa. OES can bring it! Had ski'd alone for about an hour. Upon hooking up with OES..viola...level of skiing quickly went thru the roof. Having another strong skier pushing you kicks it all into overdrive. Pure bliss indeed!

See folks if you let it epicski brings skiers together. It is a beautiful thing. Ignore the trolls. Make friends!

Thanks epicski for a great ski season

Epic actually.....

SMJ, you won't believe this but OES has size 304 tecnicas, another ski swopper!!! He has brand new 170 RX 8's!!!!!!

Yeah! What he said!!

(Except for part about making friends with Yankees fans : )

I've been skiing Wachusett all season and it was great to finally hook up with a local bear on my home hill. Had a couple of my best runs all season trying to chase those Allstars down .

Paul's right ... skiing with another strong skier takes your game up a notch and puts some smiles back in those miles. So the next time someone starts another "I nearly got smacked by a snowboarder ..." thread, just PM one of your local bears and GET OUT AND SKI!!.

when the hell are you going to come a little further west.....away from that gawdawful Red Sox nation?

So VT has been back on the map the past week!
My 294s are just too short. Barely fit into SMJ's RX8s. And he managed to ski my B5s when I now think they were probably bolloxed as a result of being decambered...

Oh, well...

Glad you boys had a good time. You've got to plan to hit the "Let's Go Colorado" time here one of these years, though!
I can't wait to meet OES and ski with the two of you.

I'll be at the wa tomorrow (Sunday) going to seem small to me now

ssh, how did your skis get decambered? It wasn't my skiing them for that short run was it?

SSH,
Thanks to you, NOLO, DCHAN and others behind the scenes for navigating epicski through the troll infested waters to keep these fabulous resources avail...and you have no idea how desperate I am to ski in the west. Never been off "hardpack" 40+ years Really want to get it done while I can still ski hard....old father time is ticking loudly...

BTW I could have you clicked into my Allstars safely in 20 seconds - one posidrive screw driver and about 3 turns on each binding in the middle. Which is precisely why my tech says ebay and Marker/ Volkl is putting him out of the Volkl business. A monkey can adjust the bindings.

Shen,
you teach at Bromley correct? Nice hill...like it a lot...wish I could get out more on better road trips...looking for a rain check tho. Chance might get to B. East soon tho...just a quick day trip or 2. Letcha know....sure we'll be going toe to toe soon in the other sports forum:

OES,
Thanks for a great day, nicely done out there. See you soon...

SMJ,
You betta be ready to fly amigo!!!

Cirquerider,

Understood Tom and appreciated....I'll keep working on cleaning up my messes on the homefront:

Phil P,

I envy the Philly bears, what a great group you have, some of epic's finest getting together regularly. You must be proud and pleased! I should have hooked up with you guys while I had a kid in college in Philly last semester....my bad.

Our little wa wachusett club has 3 now!! If we could match the group you have I'd be pretty proud!! Rip it up while you can my friend...enjoy!! I got lotsa great Sunday River memories....love to make a few more!! But, there's this silly job issue I have to deal with....:

Skied today at Wachusett with oldeasternskier. absolutely perfect morning, sunny, cool, great snow, excellent company.

Worked on a wider stance and how it was offering higher edge angles as ssh showed me in Colorado. It was easier to incorporate this on slopes that are so easy for me to ski. Felt great!

Friday testing next years skis at Ride 'em and Rank 'em (hopefully not in the rain.)

wa 3/19

Once again, amazed at what the Crowleys were able to do this morning. Expected not good....conditions were fantastic..ok loose and frozen granular but buffed and plenty of cover. Another great day skiing with OES and lil ms hrstrat57.

My daughter, a bit intimidated at skiing with others said on the way home...."he's nice"

Welcome to epicski kid

bears rule, at least at wa.....

OES, nice boots

We have a great bunch here, and yes I am proud of them.

Tuesday, March 21st report.

Absolutely perfect conditions! Skied 8:50-11:00. Beautiful cold crisp day and packed powder skiing. It truly is amazing what the groomers can do on that mountain. I don't think they've made snow, just worked it.

Plan on another couple of hours tomorrow (Wed.) morning, then Friday again and next Tuesday.

Closing day is set for Sunday April 2. (Closed on April 10th last year.)

Maybe I will hit 60 days after all this year (at 54 now.)
If you're ever at Sunday River let me know. I own a condo on the mtn so am there every weekend and all vacation weeks...early Nov through the end of April. Ski the whole mtn hard and fast with a bunch of strong skiers...always looking for others to ski with.

To the epic wachusett group - it was a great season - amazing what they did with that place consdering. Today was my 31st morning there and the skiing was actually pretty good! Very interesting watching the place deteriorate in the last 5 days, and how from day to day different trails hold up better as the morning goes on. This morning Hitchcock at 10am was still skiing great. Loose granular (or is it frozen granular) and not really wet at all.

Have a great off-season, i'm still going to get 2 more days in to hit my goal of 60 days, a goal I never expected to acheive this year!

yep

...probably last day for me yesterday, unless there is a dump. What a great day it was ripping up the spring chop with my new ski buds Skimangojazz and Oldeasternskier. If not for epic and making new ski friends, I couldn't have achieved the incredible breakthroughs I made on the hill this year.

I am eternally grateful to all...seriously!

Day one I started in November with new skis...(see my Volkl Allstars first impressions thread - which amazingly still lives) ....and my last day I ended on my new glorious ebay steal of the century, mint 170 Fischer RX8's.

Guys, next year we hunt down some more barking bears for more fun at wa

We can't keep all this fun to ourselves.

Thanks again!!!
With temps forecast to be in the 50's and even low 60's next week, I think conditions are going to rapidly deteriorate for the last week of skiing in central MA. Hoping to get one, maybe two more day off the pass, but any April skiing is going to have to be north.

In spite of the less than ideal conditions this winter, it has been a great season. New skis have put a big grin back into every run and some new friends (courtesy of EpicSki) have challenged me to bring my skiing up a notch.

Many, many thanks to hrstrat57 and SMJ for some big fun on our little mountain ... wish we'd hooked up earlier! While it's going to be hard to put the skis away for the season, I'm already looking forward to another Epic season next year!!
My thanks to epic as well for bringing us together. Oh so much more fun than skiing alone - and I've done a LOT of that.
