And what is the rest of the story that nobody knows?

Beer to go with the popcorn.

Um, as I recall, he was banned, is that what you mean by "left abruptly"?

I'd call it more like "self distruction"

He did seem to be on a mission.

Eh, seems the pm function is broken on here so people want to hash this out in the open?

Bottom line, if I mentioned that the evolution of motocross suspensions and ski design had followed parallel paths, with similar impact on technique for the two sports, I think I know who would view it as kind of obvious and who wouldn't know wtf I was talking about.  Vlad probably would be in the "yeah, that's obvious" group.  I also think I know who wouldn't know wtf I was talking about but would groove on it if I linked it to, oh, some type of core muscle thingie.

Why is the level of misinformation so high on here again?  Hmm...

I guess you'd have to ask those people who bump up three year old threads that question.

Then let all thread-bumpers post frankly about old history with no censorship.  That would be fine, nothing wrong with real sunshine.  The alternative is more than a bit one-sided, and more like painting-over.  The reality is there's a core of the same posters involved in a lot of bannings; does that mean the problem was with the departed, or....  The cynical could think that maybe there's been a problem with sunshine.

I think major changes in ski design evolution can also be compared to that of skateboard shapes over the years:
Skateboards:
Everyone riding streets and freestyle<Everyone ridding pools and bowls<More people riding streets and freestyle again
Thin< <fatter<Really FAT<Concave<fFront kick<thinner again with front kick.
Skis:
People skiing hardpack and moguls<More people skiing powder and parks<People going back to hardpack, racing, and bumps next,,,
Thin and straight<fatter<shaped<shaped and fatter<Really FAT<Reverse camber/Rocker/Reverse sidecut<-I think they'll go a bit thinner over the next 10 years like skateboards did.

And I still say core includes thighs

Excellent point re skateboards and wheels design evolution too.

Since this was posted along with a quote of mine, I feel as if it is meant as a criticism of me somehow. I'll state clearly that I didn't have any problem with Vlad, aside from shaking my head at his tendency to bully folks with his knowledge.  He certainly did like to beat the epicski hornet's nest. He seemed to be on a mission to be martyred at the hands of the powers that be on this site, and seemed to find the controversy he stirred to be a measure of his importance and superiority. If you find me saying so somehow unpalatable, well sorry to damage your delicate sensibilities.

I have spread no misinformation, so what's up your butt?

I don't know if it was in critism of your post VA as I don't know what's going through CT's mind. But, your acessment of the Vlad situation as it was a few years back is spot on. That's exactly  what happened. The fact is we all respected Vlad's knowledge to a certain degree but his ability to get along with others was very lacking.

He self distructed pushing all the wrong buttons as if he was on a mission to do so. but, the mystique continues I guess. Still don't know why this thread was bumped.

Could it be that it was, shall we say, a self-inflicted bump?  Remember, Vlads come in all shapes, sizes, and handles.

The gun belonged to Steve, Spider's brother.  He had found it sitting in a place that the kids could access just a week before.  He checked to make sure there were no bullets in it, and then placed it on top of the bookcase, way out of their reach.  Claudine would have had to put bullets into it in order for it to "misfire".

The Vlad that Glider is talking about is olympian Vladimir Peter Spider Sabich, and while his memory deserves some respect, the vlad that made his presence dominant on EpicSki for a short stint  is not the Vlad that Glider has reminded us about.
See more info here...

Glider, I hope you stick around and share some of you Ski History knowledge.

WHAT!  You can get banned from Epicski?  Sounds painful.

Yep, if you, say, think pressuring the boot cuffs is a good thing, you will either ultimately leave voluntarily, shaking your head in dismay, or ultimately get banned if you stick to your guns.  As long as people coming here understand to be very wary of any advice, chalk it up to the way of the web, though due to the odd dynamics of skiing in particular maybe make the "misinformation quotient" more pronounced on here than on forums devoted to other subjects.

BTW, up above I didn't mean to imply that VA had spread misinformation.  Vlad had spread lots of good info.  The advice of some posters who had big problems with him I'd be less a fan of.  If I come on here asking about, say, Lib Tech's wavy sidecut, Vlad was plugged in and could give real advice grounded not just in his own thoughts but from feedback from others with solid backgrounds.  But Vlad can't give that input on here now.  If you don't mind buying only the forum "ski of the year" as brand affiliations of active posters change, you'll still have fun and it's not a problem.  If you want good feedback, it's a problem.

It wasn't Vlad stepping on toes on the forum it was him harassing members off the forum and contacting them at their homes.

I'm sure there was a stated  "reason,"  accurate or not depending upon opinion, for each banning, including in one recent case seemingly what some might view as a failure to genuflect appropriately.  Amusingly there was one recent banning that I actually agreed with but where the banning itself seemed from the outside looking in to be more in reaction to someone posting, pretty accurately, about what happens at race camp, and not about that poster's general, obsessive, consumption of bandwidth.  Real-world race camp:  controversial stuff.

For posters with strong backgrounds who left voluntarily there's not really the same "out," though.  Like I said, to an extent the way of the intrawebbbs, but read carefully.
