Which ASC eastern resort Mar 4&5?

We usually go to Sunday River, but have only been 1 weekend this year. (Fortunately we've be able to ski total of 11 days in CO!) It seems most recent New England snow has been in southern NH and VT. Any reports from this past weekend at ASC eastern resorts much appreciated.

I skied Attitash Saturday and Sunday. I was very pleased, especially with Bear Peak in the morning. Sunday River claimed 6" Saturday night- I dont know if Id believe it- only 3 new trails opened anyway- but its always a good time over there. Very much worth it to check out those resorts- supposedly they could get some snow this week as well.

I skied in VT the past weekend. The Green Mtns have recieved a foot plus of the lightest, fluffiest powder this side of UT in a decade. The bad news is most of VT has blue ice as a base and the light snow didn't last long, but was bliss while it lasted. If VT gets more snow I would go to Pico which had good conditions when I was there on Sunday.

For non-ASC I would head to Sugarbush, which is where I'm going next week end.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know there was possibility of more snow this week. I'll look at the forecasts.

I think there is a chance for snow on Wed/Thurs. The past snow was no monster snow just a clipper with the mtn up-lift affect that lasted for two days.

We decided on Sunday River thanks to a friend who isn't using his condo! Yippeeee!!!!!!

But, man, I have to say that when I called for season pass holder lodging at some of the ASC resorts, I couldn't believe how high the rates were!! I've never paid that much before and wouldn't have this weekend. We'd have just done a day trip Saturday to Killington, which I NEVER do, if our friend didn't let us use his place.

That sounds great, what time should we be there?

I just returned from a weekend and the conditions were the best in comparison to any resort that I skiied this year...It was kick A... Terrific conditions on Jordan, Oz and Aurora...Spent about 60% of the time on Jordan and Aurora doing lap after lap on a few groomers..

Barker was pretty good and White cap was pretty good save for the top of white heat which was kinda icy at times...

Overall, I couldnt have picked a better weekend to spend slopeside ...

Well, I didn't get over to Jordan, Aurora and Oz. The wind was wicked. It wasn't even close to "the best in comparison to any resort that I skied this year" as it was for coug, but it was better than I thought it would be. Yes, the top (and the middle, and the bottom) of White Heat was icy. But, so was every trail I was on except for those blues over by the Grand Summit. I guess they don't get skied out as much as the others, I suppose. Basically, the wind blew so much that where there was solid ice, it was exposed. The bottom of upper Downdraft was sheer ice, but the top was great. T2 was nice. North Peak was crowded and only Grand Rapids wasn't skied out. American Express was sketchy, but really not bad at all considering the wind. Only did the lower part of Obsession, but it was fine.

Really, I can't remember everything. But, as I said, it was much better overall than I expected. We really had a great weekend.

Hmm.. Looks like you and I skiied mutually exclusive trails in the same set of moutains .. I should add that Idid all my skiing in NE this year and these truly have been the best condition amongst the 15 or so days I have hit the ASC resorts..

It was windy, I agree, but once you hit the trails it wasnt a factor.. I hit white heat on Saturday afternoon and it was pretty good save for the top.. Maybe it progressvely bad over the weekend..The top of obsession though was cat-tracks carved on Ice..

I did lap after lap on Ovation, black hole, airglow, caramba, excalibur, rouge angel etc and the snow was perfect all weekend.. I think this is a clue as to which mountains to hit depending on the wind direction : ..

Yes, you are right coug, between the two of us we covered it all! I'm surprised that your experience on the "other side" was so good. I always thought the wind would be worse over there. In fact, on Sunday morning I rode up the North Peak chair with 2 adult guys and their "Pop" who said they went over to Jordan on Saturday and thought they were in the twister over Dorothy's house. So, I thought I'd made the correct decision not going over there Saturday. Oh, well. I was clearly wrong! That's good to know, though. Next time I'll know better. Or at least be willing to take the time to check it out!

Yes, I hit White Heat mid-day Sunday. So, it must have been much better for you on Saturday.

I thought, given the way things have gone this season, that what Sunday River has done to provide a good ski experience was excellent. As I said, it was much better than I thought it would be. I had never been skiing in Colorado until this season. We were lucky and got out there Thanksgiving week (2 days Vail, 1 Breck, 1 A-basin, 1 Keystone, 1 Beaver Creek) and then 3rd week of January at Steamboat. We only got to Sunday River 2 days previous to this past weekend. Usually we get 15 day or so at ACS eastern resorts. We hope to get a few more!!! PLEASE, PLEASE snow gods! Give us a good spring!!

Ah no wonder.. All that colorado skiing must have spoiled you .. It sucks that it was that bad over there side..

I am hoping for good spring skiing as well.. Unfortunately I will be taking a vacation the first 3 weeks of April so this weekend or the next will be my last.. With lots of luck, I might be able to ski once after I return..
Oh well, I at least got more than my season pass worth ..

Coug, Good for you getting so many days on your season pass. I still need a couple more days to break even. Have an awesome vacation in April!! That's so cool you get 3 weeks off!!!!!! Any vacation can't be "unfortunate"! Make the most of it!!! And, maybe we'll see you on White Heat in April!
