not only that, but you'll make some long-lasting ski buds in the deal, as well, and if you're not a cheapskate, well....picking up the driver's lunch or morning coffee doesn't hurt your prospects for a ride home.
I've found that long island, NY (believe it or not) and northern new england have the best hitchhiking in the country, in my experience.
hell- throw your boots and boards over your shoulder and you won't have TIME to put your thumb out.
I can cite several trips where I wound up being invited to stay with UVM or St. Mikes ladies afterward (couch space) and wound up having a great time at many good parties and boozing at places like nectar's, esox, and 'the (chicken) bone'.
