Olympic Quiz: What is "happier"? - Page 2

Sure it may be a bit risque to say that an olympic event resembles two men having sex on ice but no hatefilled speech was occuring here. If you REALLY have to search for something to be offended by, then maybe no offense at all was intended.

This probably belongs in the humor forum, if at all. Is this subject in bad taste? IMHO, yes. However, so are a lot of threads here these days.

Epic Ski used to be seen as AC's house where we, the "guests", pretty much behaved as we would expect guests in our home to behave. The Party's now become pretty big. Many of the first guests to arrive left early and the character of the party has changed.

It takes everything to make a world. Just relax and enjoy the ride.

Maybe, it's more a question of time and place.

...or audience.

In an eforum you're undoubtedly going to rub some people the wrong way. There was no attack ...just a 'bit of humor that may have pierced a thinner skin here and there.

Where did this violate the rules of EpicSki?

Well, we have a Random Humor forum for posting "jokes, Oddball Images, Funny Links and whatever else". I suggested that it probably belongs there, if at all.

Personally, I think the post is sophomoric but I quite agree that it doesn't appear to violate any rules. There are no rules against hypocracy, simple rudeness, selfishness, stupidity, indifference or a host of other behaviors. It's a good thing there aren't.

More to the point, one consequence of Epic Ski's growth is that many of those who actually knew a lot about skiing and enjoyed sharing that knowledge have left as the number of inane discussions, rude exchanges and rants has grown. You expect a certain amount of that in the off-season but it's' becoming year around now. Not illegal but unhelpful, IMHO.

You are right it is more than just AC's house. It is an internet forum. And as you say, it certainly is about "the audience". However, like attracts like and as the common denominator changes so does the character and quality of the forum. So we can choose to either build or deconstruct this skiing forum or simply walk off the job as many have already done.

Lostboy, your points are good ones. I look at much of what has transpired as being related to the Olympics, causing myopic distortion. Furstration, bubbles burst, national pride and all the like have entered in.

This like all things will pass, like the free for all after 9/11.

Yuki, you are probably right, at least I hope so.
Thanks.

So anyway, I don't see anything wrong with this post. I know many gays, and I have many gay friends. Hell, even my boyfriend is gay. I really think we need to lighten up. It's funny people.

The only problem I have is that it takes away from the sacrifice and dedication that many of these two man lugers have had. They are elite athletes as well.

NBC did a poignant story about a luging team that was actually favored to medal. The network showed how the team would meet before work everyday at 5 am, train with weights, do a couple of runs, then do wind sprints. They would go to the office, then return to the gym and track after work. One of the guys was responsible for looking after his siblings, so he had to fit them in to the mix.

Ultimately, one of the guys wasn't able to make the trip to Turin, because he couldn't leave his little brother's behind. ;-)

The other one filed for divorce soon after.
