Lets Go Colorado II - Page 10

I'm counting the days down in anticipation, I'm in San Antonio through Thursday for a company meeting, then back to Pittsburgh, get my ski bags then out to Vail Friday. My friend called me down here that was coming out on the 18th had to cancel as his son broke both his legs down at Virginia Tech where he goes to school. Hit and run drunk driver hopped the curb and took him out on the sidewalk. Its miraculous he wasn't hurth worse. But I have to cut my trip short and come home next Wendesday. Look forward to meeting you all. Enough of spring weather , I want it to get cold and snow!!

Roundturns, so sorry to hear about your friend's son--tragic! Wish him well on behalf of all the Bears!

It was snowing here in Dillon a little today but nothing really significant. Doing our best to have some banner spring conditions for your visit. Look forward to meeting you soon!

Mike.....keep track of ssh, Faisal's and Nancy's cell numbers, and if I'm correct you have Coach's also....Two Elk should work for lunch but that may depend on early lift closures. I'm not sure when they are closing Orient Express lift and those two little lifts to nowhere that run across the ridge line.....That may make the trip over to Two Elk rather long.

Best bet is to call us when you get on the first chair.....I'm assuming you may be coming right out of the center of the village after you get out of the shop with Tiff. If so, a meeting at the Mid-Vail Lodge may work perfectly.

Front Row....Ryan (a lurker) and KlKaye

UL, I'll have plenty of numbers to get ahold of someone when we jump on our first chair. We're getting Tiff's gear at Golden Peak, so we should be riding #6 out of the base. We'll catch you guys somewhere.

roundturns....that sucks...All here I'm sure extend our feelings for a quick recovery for your friend's son.

Will we see you on the hill on Friday.....or Saturday ?
Saturday the 15th is my first day . I probably won't get into Vail till after 1 pm Sat. But come to think about it, Maybe I can ski for a couple hours because I already have purchased the tickets and I am leaving several days early, so my as well go straight to the hill. I catch an 11 AM shuttle at DIA, I should get to the hotel by 1 pm, should be able to get on the hill before 2.
Friday the 14th I arrive , so I can ski that afternoon for a few hours. I have my days messed up in the previous post. Does everybody meet for a beer at the end of the day, and where. I saw somebody mention the Red Lion.

Sorry it's taken me so long to post some pictures ...

Here's one at Copper with UL and 2 Wyndham friends (no clue who the guy in the background is, sorry) http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=4/10023114959.jpg&s=x11

April 10th at Copper -- end of the day shows some "happy bears" http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=4/10023105480.jpg&s=x11

Today I indulged and took a picture of the spring thaw ... pretty, eh? http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=4/10023122728.jpg&s=x11

I'll take more pictures tomorrow with the crew at Vail.

I need a Vail ticket for the 18th. They normally go for $59. I have an opportunity to buy one for $45. Does anyone have a better "line" on cheaper tickets?

I'm at the La Quinta in Silverthorne if you guys want to pool the parking, unless someone has a better spot than the lionshead $ 16 garage.

Also, is the meet place still at Golden Peak at 9:15? If so, I have to get to the lionshead ticket office to get my voucher cashed and my peaks card updated. So is there another on hill meet place other than Golden Peak?

Thanks,

Kaj

Kaj, See page one of the posts. UL says MidVail at 10 is an alternative site, but you must PM him so he knows to meet there. LewBob

<pokes head in and waves> Hi, all. After such a fabulous week, I wanted to stop by and thank UL, Nancy, jgiddyup, and Ryan for their patience with me at Keystone last Thursday. Especially UL, whose outstanding coaching helped this nearly knee-knocking newbie make a breakthrough and finally see how much fun this sport can be. <bows down in homage> Sorry I didn't get to hang with you guys the rest of the week, but all my travels that week caught up with me, and I was fried by Sat.

Already planning for next year...

Oh, speaking of next year, for anyone that stays in Silverthorne, let me recommend the La Quinta Inn. Comprex and I were able to get a rate of $53/night by using a AAA discount. The rooms were very comfortable, and they had a great breakfast bar in the morning!

Wow! Thanks to the Vail crew today! We had a great time, with AE, Alta6, UL, Nancy, bong, Kaye, BobDonnaDownhill and daughter, Viking Kaj, Faisasy, PedalBiker (is that right?) and Jo, madmike and Tiff, Icharus, and I feel like I'm missing someone!!!

Thanks so much, gang. I had a super time. I still am in awe at all of the snow still hanging on at Vail.

Onkel Ludwigs Bearapalooza at Vail (4/13)

Thanks to every one for a great day. It was good to be able to meet face to face, and the skiing was even better. While the snow started out hard, by the last bump run it was soft like butter. And blue sky everywhere, not just in the basin.

Thanks to our gracious hosts and guides including Bong, SSH (aka the Metron Bomber) and, of course, especially Uncle Louie.

The skiing bear crowd was so international today that we were able to come up the following equivalents for Uncle Louie:

Samchung Rouie (Korean)
Tjadja Louis (Russian)
Onkel Ludwig (German)
Tio Luis (Spanish)
Farbror Ludvig (Swedish)

Faisasy also had the equivalent in Bengali which unfortunately I can't remember. Other updates and equivalents are welcome, please feel free to add yours here.

For those of you who haven't made it up yet, ya gotta. Skiing with this crew is the most fun you can have legally on skis. I've got potentially 3 more days at Vail, so I'm thinking at a minimum Saturday and Monday (Sunday is Copper's Easter Bash). I also heard a rumor that SSH may have a birthday on hill on Tuesday the 18th.

So get on your skis and get up here!

Kaj

PS. Who IS Sugarcube and WHERE is she hiding?
What an awesome day! Great group and great skiing. I was just trying to keep up with the morning gang as we hit some fun stuff ("It's just a little cornice here" . We had the Metron crew out in force with four of us sporting one model or another. It was a blast to watch the gang just lay 'em over and make some TURNS! And ssh has got to be the best advertisement I've seen yet for Metrons -- he can really get them up on their edges!

Pics and videos(!) from the day will have to wait until later today since I left my camera in my jacket in ssh's car.

Well I was at Vail yesterday on a long-planned last day out of the season with my Dad (don't know if it will be the last for me, but it was the last for him). Forgot there would be Bears there. Wonder if we saw any of you or shared a lift? I looked at the photos, but couldn't for sure identify anyone. Vail is a small world on a big mountain, though, and I frequently run into people I know by random chance, standing in a lift line or waiting for friends at a trail junction. So who knows?

We were mostly groomer people yesterday, as my Dad is a blue groomer man, and it was his day.

What a day, eh? Blue skies and spring snow. . . but still spectacular coverage. I have seen that much brown showing through some Februarys! For April, it was outstanding. Didn't meet a rock shark all day!

Glad the *Let's Go Colorado II* team is having a good time!
So are there any plans for a group dinner or anything tomorrow (Saturday) night? My wife and I will be staying at Vail (Lionshead) tomorrow, and I was thinking it might be nice to have a social outing in the evening. Any interest?

I guess we could just decide tomorrow during the day, but if there's enough of us, we might want to make a reservation.

Great stuff as always Faisal and glad all of you are having a great time. A big hello from the right coast where it's 80 degrees and a weekend of yard work looms.

You're all bastards and none of you can ski:
