Well, here we go again !

With record snowfall in Summit County, CO this year and with the response to last years unofficial gathering, I figured it was time to start thinking about all this again. You guys/gals ready ?

This years dates are;

April 4- Breckenridge
5th---Copper
6th---Keystone
7th---A-Basin (weather dependent)
8th---Loveland
9th---Breckenridge
10th--Copper (not sure I can attend this day yet)
11th--TBA (I can not attend this day)

12th - 15th Vail

16th--Beaver Creek

17th -- 19th Vail

20th---Breckenridge
21st---A-Basin
22nd-- Loveland (lunchtime parking lot BBQ)
23rd--Breckenridge

Here are the suggested meeting places.

Breckenridge- At the Ten Mile Station (at the top of the 6 pack lift on Peak 9) ...ready to ski at 9:45.

Copper- Inside at Jacks (right by the bar) by the Eagle and Flyer lifts...ready to ski at 9:15.

Keystone- In the "Day Lodge" (near the ski school and ski lockers) at the River Run end of the mtn. ....ready to ski at 9:15. (This is if there is enough interest in going to Keystone)

Beaver Creek- At the base of the lift in front of the Hyatt...ready to ski at 9:15 (again if there is interest)

Vail- In the lower level of the Golden Peak Lodge in the hall by the lockers....ready to ski at 9:15

****A second meeting spot is at the Midvail Lodge at 10AM ...but please PM me if you intend to meet here. This for those staying at the other end of the village who don't want to shuttle all the way over to Golden Peak.**

A-Basin- In the Old Lodge upstairs (on the bar side) at 9:30...ready to ski.

Please be on time...we usually don't wait !

Tickets

You can go to www.snow.com to research ticket prices. In addition there are many businesses that sell discounted tickets.

Vail has "Spring Back to Vail" prices posted for April 16th-23rd. You CAN NOT find them advertised unless you click on BUY TICKETS at the web site. $ 109 for up to 4 days.......$ 159 for up to 6 days.

I am told by another member that they are also seeing the same rate on Vail tickets at Expedia starting April 3rd. I have no idea why Vail is not doing the same and have called to check....neither do they ! Any ticket bought at Vail is also good at Breckenridge/Keystone/Beaver Creek and A-Basin.

In the past other Bears who work at areas may have discounts or freebees...If you do...please add to the thread and tell us.

Lodging

By far Vail's value (on value lodging ) has been Apollo Park lodge. There is good news and bad news here...the bad....The Lodge is being torn down this summer. The good...

Book starting April 2nd and you can get the SUMMER rate ! Go to www.Apolloparklodge.com and click on the summer rates. (you gonna like this part) If you book 6 nights the 7th is free. AmyJo or Darryl will probably answer the phone...mention EpicSki.

disclaimer---This is not exactly Vails highest quality lodging, so if you want fancy...head somewhere else. I have always found it to be clean..just dated. The have a great staff there. It is walking distance to the Village/Golden Peak and the Vista Bahn. There is a nice outdoor pool and hot tub there and a deck with a BB-Q grill for guest use...nice spot for a get-together.

Other cheap digs are "The Roost". It is shuttle distance and not in the Village but is very well kept and inexpensive.

For those who need to book in Summit County try www.skivillagelodging.com . I have found them to generally be the cheapest and easy to work with. My choice in Breckenridge would be Beaver Run at the Base of Peak 9.

The towns of Silverthorne, Dillon and Frisco are central to most of the areas we will be skiing...Driving times (approx) from each are as follows.... Copper about 15 minutes........Breckenridge and Keystone about 20 minutes.....Vail, Loveland and A-Basin about 30 minutes. This should help if you have never been here before.

I am not sure on Apres events at this time....I'm open to suggestions, but here are a few of mine..

I'm seeing a late afternoon Bar-B-Q and swim party at the Apollo Park Lodge on one of the days scheduled for Vail.

A friend of mine (and former Ski Instr) owns a restraurant in Breckenridge...If there is enough interest we can have a section of the rest. blocked off. It's Michael's (Italian) and the dinners run $ 12- $ 16 usually. If there is enough interest I'll arrange this with Mike and talk to him about a discount.

Finally.....we had a great turn out last season...but no one west of Vail made it out.

There were plenty from the east ( ) and a few from the mid-west ( ) and a couple from the south ( )

There is plenty of notice....tons of snow...lots of cool folks to ski with and it's cheap.

Lets Go !

Uncle Louie,

Is there a "Base of operations" for the 3 venues? I'm definately in 4-7 Apr and can lodge pretty much anywhere.
Well, well.... it's that time again huh? I've been waiting for this since last April! If anyone is going to be in the area during this timeframe, you do NOT want to miss out on skiing with the group! My trip last year included 5 days of lodging and skiing with Uncle Louie and tons of other Bears. Check out the Let's Go Colorado thread below for a full account of last year's activities.

My wife and I will be joining UL at Apollo Park from April 12-18th for some sick skiing and socializing. I can't wait to see the friends that I made last year, and hope to make some new ones this year. See you guys soon!

Not really for your dates...I did just edit the Lodging post to add Ski Village Lodging to look for a place.

Copper staff can get four discount tics a day. We were able to get Julie and Adrian $29 tics last week. Could probably do better in April.

Yo Unc!!! What about Loveland???

Cube...We can include Loveland if there is enough interest. It would be a great addition especially if the weather is warm as it's up so high.

Definitely looking forward to it. And this time, I hope I can actually keep up with some of you! :-)

Also, if anyone is really broke, I believe we can get you $35 a night rooms at the Edge. I'll have to check on that.

Thanks for the posts on the lodging and ticket deals....I'm sure it will help somebody !

Can you please heal everything on time for Spring....I never did get to ski with you .
LOL! You just gave me more motivation to stay alive!

I'm excited to catch up and ski with everyone! UL ... the week called "summit county" ... will you be posting which days at which resort?

I'm happy to help organize "other" activities like tubing, snowmobiling or snowshoeing.

Last year we were able to secure some "group" pricing because folks committed to skiing certain venues on specific days. If we can get an accurate count together again, then we can check into discounts. There is a lot of inexpensive hotel/lodging in Frisco and Dillon/Silverthorne.

See you soon!

Right on doing better in the Spring....I know the Instructors there were able to get unlimited tickets at $ 20 each. One instructor had 2 free tickets left, so 3 of us ended up skiing for $ 7.00 that day. Can't beat that one !

I will eventually post where we are headed each day. It's just a little early for that. I just wanted everybody to know the general area for the entire time period so they could all make reservations.

You did a great job for us at Loveland last year in getting us the group rate....thanks ! As more staff people at the various areas contact me, as you have, I will have a better grasp on who has what for discounts. We may be able to do better than group rates in some instances.

Tubes and Snowmobiles...

We had quite a few Intermediates show last year and I know more coming this year. I wouldn't worry about that one.

Vail and Breck are very well set up for this. There are a lot of expert runs next to beginner and Intermediate runs making it easy to temporarly split the group for short times and easily meet again.

It will be fun to finally meet you as I know you are already booked....Cool !

If you guys do Copper on a Tuesday or Wednesday, you can get free cocoa for filling out my survey! I am SUCH a slut!

Also, we can use my studio if we want to do a pot luck Apres. Might be cheaper than eating out. I think we can also rent the clubhouse of our condo for a refundable fee.

OTOH, it's the start of mud season, so there may be two for one dinner specials.

Coach, I'm with you! I'm one of those skiers who's ALWAYS last down the hill...moss has been known to form on members of the group while they wait for me!
Mud nothing ... unless it's 80 degrees for the whole month of april we will still be skiing the 100" base of snow we have amassed this winter.

Last year's gathering at Loveland was full-on spring conditions on saturday and snowy, wintry conditions on sunday -- so pack for a bit of everything!

UL ... I skied with your buddy Barry the other day here at Copper.

He was kind enough to drag us around Copper (his home area) last year when we all were there. Maybe I can get him to do that again this year.

Free cocoa.
