i used to work at a shop (backcountry, climbing, whitewater,ect...) so i had a chance to try quite a few gloves. the best results that i found (and what i use now) are shells with liners. mountain hardwear (what i am using) makes great stuff: take a look at the Altitude or Evo. If you decide for a one piece glove the Mountain Hardwear Exposure II or the Marmot Randonnee (has an insert) are a couple great gloves. Ourdoor Research makes great stuff as well, but is hard to find good deals online.
Some hardwear gloves are made with conduit (their house brand of gor-tex. being in the northeast you will notice no difference between the two, plus conduit is less expensive. the only difference you would notice would be out west where it is very dry where the gor-tex could move moisture and dry the glove out a little quicker.
Hardwear and Marmot is available pretty often all over the net. hope this helps and good luck
