AT Bindings and telemark turns

I tried to find this by searching but didnt find anything, thanks to "AT" not being searchable. Also I appoligize if this is a retarded question but here goes;

I read somewhere that its possible to do a telemark turn with AT\Randonee bindings if you just leave the heel peice detached like you would if skinning. Anyone try this? How well does it work? Seems like it would be a little rough on your binding toe pivots, true? Anything else\comments.

I ask cause I want to get an AT setup and maybe a tele setup down the road and thought this might be an intermediate step to tele to see if I like it without buying or demoing.

Thanks.
