PSIA Level 2 Exam @ Pico - 2/11-2/12

Just got back from the Level II exam @ Pico. Not much snow, not much terrain, but lots of happy people (especially teaching candidates). All in all, only about 4 or 5 people going for the Part II failed (out of about 30). I think the skiing exam was a little more unforgiving, as 22 (I think) out of 54 candidates passed.

I passed the teaching with flying colors

So, it was a good weekend all things considered. ASC seems intent on pounding all the snowmaking into Killington, so I didn't see one snowmaker on Pico all weekend. Still, grooming did a great job and the lower mountain was in good shape. Perfect for teaching, and lots of people were able to take advantage. That's all for now,

The important part of test, and the reason for this post is that there are new student profiles for the creative teaching module. .... - MC
Do you know if they changed the skills profile (that's the other card) or are they the same?

They changed those too . . I forget what most of them were . . One had to do with ice, one had to do with a weak inside half, one had a wedge christie skier who caught the inside edge of their inside ski on turns (or something like that). . . . Mine was someone who could carve turns, but would get going too fast after 6 or 7 turns. So I introduced steering with the two airplane analogy.

??? how's that work?

You know . . . picture your tips as two airplanes . . . the inside one has to turn before the outside one or they'll crash into eachother. It helps people steer the inside ski. Easier to show then to explain in words.

And congrats Bushwacker! Like I said, lots of happy teaching candidates . .

Dude! Bushwacker, I remember you two guys from Hidden Valley. You were the ones that were hitting on my girlfriend!

But seriously, did you stop at EMS and get that Born from Ice movie by the meatheads? That $hit is right up your alley. Decent MRG video too . . . maybe that mountain is in good shape after all . . .

Hey Mattchuck2, I think I might have rode up with you and your examiners once. were you wearing orange?

I rode with some examiners and their student once (I was there for VKs race) and I didn't really say anything becasue I didn't want to interrupt the session. Somone, I think it was either the instructor or the examiner was talking about how he taught at Vail for a couple of seasons, and about the ski school there.

was datchoo?

Nah, I was wearing blue . . . there were 6 or 7 groups of teaching candidates and 6 or 7 groups of skiing candidates, so there was a big PSIA presence at the mountain.
That would be all the groups that were standing around watching...ah, I see. oh well. I was there anyway, and congrats on passing!

Conditions were good on the lower mtn, upper wasn't too bad if you like big ice chunks. though I was talking to some locals who said there are about two days a year when the upper mounain is any good.....

congrats!

Is the written portion multiple choice or the old write-in answer style?

Multiple Guess . . . pretty easy if you know your stuff. You can usually narrow it down to two answers, and then take an educated guess from there.
