Nice video.
Bode skis, while Phil Mahre comments...or Steve Mahre...or Andy Mahre...maybe it's Bill Bill Maher...whatever:

That really makes me want to get some skis on!

That's groovy! I was finding myself concentrating very hard just watching. Can't imagine the concentration that goes into staying up and staying on course.

Can't wait for the Olympics!

Kind of dissapointed in the length of the video versus load time. I wish it was the whole course. Also what's up with the flash - MS has WMA? why not go with that? Geek rants aside still something cool to watch.

It wasn't impossible to follow if you knew where to focus and what to look for. I want to see it with a 'booze filter'

I believe it is the whole course. Check out the "Continue" button at the bottom right of the screen.

INTENSE. Would love to see this on IMAX.

Huh, thought I saw some inside tip lead there. Guess he didn't read any of Harb's stuff.

Pretty cool.

That WAS fun! I know I was pretty happy to see the finish line...I was getting tired of concentrating so hard!

Thanks Oldschool - great link!

You can see the shadow of the video camera being held in his hand. I can just barely begin to imagine how insanely difficult this must have been. The wind drag and the effect on balance is one thing, but the whole idea of this approach is to help keep the camera steady at the expense of your skiing efficiency. You can see the skier taking a wide line (especially on right turns). You know the skier had to be at least 5MPH slower holding the camera out during the tucks. Imagine that view turned up 3 more notches (tighter line, no wind drag, no worries about holding the camera steady).

That was fun! I stood in front of my monitor in a tuck the whole time. Every time he'd turn right, I'd move all my weight over to my left leg (still in the tuck), and vice-versa. I think it was more fun that way.

That was a large camera Bode was carrying (look at the shadow). That's really got to mess with you when you're screaming down a DH course, even if he's only gonig 75%.

Thanks for the link!

I too noticed the shadow from the camera. I had assumed he would have one of those helmet cameras till I saw the monster camera. Pretty darn impressive skiing hauling that thing along!

John you're too funny! I'm going to try doing that later! Living vicariously...

Check out the Red Bull Copilot web site, there is really cool Daron Rahlves interactive footage. You can change the view from a number of angles, very cool.

Sorry, I'm Web-Tarded... I can't figure out how to post the link...Google 'Red Bull Copilot' it's pretty damn cool.

Great video & commentary!
Some years back, Vail held the World Championships. We were there for a day about a week after. Near the end of the day, I saw the trail sign for "Giant Steps" and remembered that was one of the runs, so in we went. It was still hard as a runway and chopped up. We stopped partway down and just looked around trying to imagine skiing this thing at WC speeds!!! These are awesome athletes!! Scared me to think about it.

Sorry to be a stickler for details, but the course in the video wasn't the Olympic course in Sestriere, it was Bormio, and the commentator was initially talking about the course details at Kitzbuehel....

that explains the lack of sharp turns, some almost 180deg, as referenced in the commentary.
