actually, a halfway decent crank dealer can afford it, as well. but seriously,
european ski bargains are still definitely there, esp. in the carpathians
and it's tatry spur.
but in the alps, slovenia still is very affordable, and offers incredible gigantic, alpine vert, and storybook little villages, etc.
belive it or not, bosnia has some incredible skiing, as well.
but staying north, take a gander at slovakia's high tatras, and bohemia's spindleruv mlyn is very affordable and NICE, a quick, cheap 2 hr. bus ride from prague, which is a cheap flight from the east coast of the us.
great value is still to be found in the austrian tyrol (my all-time favourire for hospitality, terrain, and knockout ladies who love american guys who ski well) and the publlic, city-owned hill in innsbruck has amazing terrain, and is still a helluva bargain.
take a flight into munich, (if innsbruck direct isn't real cheap) carrying only your boots and clothing, and grab the bus to the garmisch AFRC (and garmisch, itself, is a nice bargain) if not the bus to innnsbruck (i like to hitch outta garmisch- 90% of the folks on the road tend to be serious skiers- wear your jacket
) and get a cheap zimmer in town, and take public transport to the city hill. what a cheapass, excellent way to spend a vacation!!!!!!!!
