Scratched my Iron...need to worry?

Total newb question......

Began waxing my skis for the first time and bought a swix iron. I must have been pressing a bit too hard on the edges & scratched the iron surface and then introduced a few minor swirls into the base.
Obviously I need to use a lighter touch.

I tried buffing the iron out with a nylon brush & fiber pad but a few small gouges remain.

I'll be ironing much more gently in the future but am wondering if the damage to iron will continue to mar my bases.

thanks & pardon the dumb question

You can use some fine sandpaper to get the scratches out.

I can't imagine a few minor scratches should make any difference at all. The iron is just to apply heat to melt the wax into the base. The base is then scraped and brushed to finish the wax application. Any texture imparted by the iron is irrelevant. I have even seen a steam iron with holes used. :

As long as the edges of the iron are not high of the surrounding metal, which could cause scratches in the plastic bases, you should have no problem. I routinely use an old steam iron for waxing. As Cirq says, the rest of your procedure should remove any anomalies left in the wax.

Just like the above. Perhaps a fine file or emery board to smooth it out a bit followed by some very fine paper (800 grit??) ...

Not to worry ...

Wanna go overkill .... check the iron with a true bar ..... jus' kiddin

The best advise for minimizing the impact from an iron that has been scratched is to avoid swirling. You should move the iron most exclusively in one direction, although an occational back an forth to distribute wax don't hurt. This way, any scratch will be parallell to your base structure and should not be a big issue.
