Ski Shops in the Tahoe Area

Thread Starter
I am going to visit my brother in Sacramento in February, and need to help him find a pair of boots while I'm out there. I work at a ski shop, and want to make sure I take him to a good place to get fitted for boots. I was wondering if anyone knows of good ski shops somewhere near Sacramento or the Tahoe area. Ability to make footbeds, grind, and blow out the boot are required. Thank you for any recommendations!

Elite Feet in Squaw Valley or Northstar. They are the best. Period.

Ski Shops in the Tahoe Area

For boots and custom boot/footbed service see Cosmo at Cosmo's Footwerks in Tahoe City. Quality equipment, exceptional service, all around great guy with a really big dog! I'd advise to call ahead for an appointment. Cosmo does all the service himself and can get quite busy. And his office hours are sometimes dependent on snow conditions. Well worth the money. I can't tell you enough how much I recommend these two bootfitters:

1. Jim @ Sierra Ski and Snowboard (Sacramento, CA)

2. Bud Heishman, Snowind Sports (Reno, NV)

Jim has doen a TON of work to make me happy/fit my boots. It's unreal. He's doena fantastic job. I recommend him to anyone. SUPER high quality work, great selection, etc.

Bud fit my wife for boots. She has ridden with NO footpain at all for 10 days this season. That's testament to his work. They were brand new boots, bough from him too.

I'm a pretty demanding consumer, and like the best.

These two guys ARE the best.

DITTO. Cosmos in Tahoe City best bootfitter . I am still using the footbeds he made me in 1997 and they're still great. Definitely call and make an appointment in advance or you may not get into shop, he talks a lot so allow TIME he's worth it. Best selection of boots in Sacramento is at Helms of Sun Valley on Howe Ave. They are usually expensive however. Other full service quality shop is Land Park Ski and Sports on Freeport Blvd. There are a lot of ski shops in Tahoe. Cosmos sells boots but has a limited supply of brands etc., but he is the bootfitter. Good Luck/good skiing

As others have mentioned, Jim at Sierra Ski & Snowboard in Sacramento is great (SierraJim on this forum). He really goes the extra mile.

Jim @ Sierra Ski and Snowboard (Sacramento, CA)

Highly recommended - Ask for Jim or Jordan... if something isnt right after the purchase - they will make it right. At South Lake Tahoe go to Sports Ltd. Also VERY knowledgable and helpful...

Bud at Snowind Sports in basement of Hilton Reno.

Also, when you buy your boots you can add the balancing which can improve your skiing more. Bud is the one who did the balancing/alignment last year of EpicSki academy.

Granite Chief at Squaw

Make an appointment with Gunnar or Gary at Granite Chief. Had them do 3 pairs of boots for me over the years.
