Deer Valley's "limited ticket sales" is mostly marketing hype. As far as I have heard they have sold out exactly one day this season (12/29/05), and that was not until around 11:30. Note that limited ticket sales does not include season pass holders, only day pass purchases. Lines do happen on some lifts, but not very long. By California or Colorado standards the place is never crowded.
Deer Valley grooms a high percentage of their runs, and gets regular awards from ski magazines for the quality of their grooming. They do leave considerable areas ungroomed, almost all of Mayflower and Empire lift areas are ungroomed (never any lines on these lifts), plus some nice glade areas.
In general people who knock Deer Valley are either boarders, or skiers who have never been there.
