According to VR executives (probably biased) Breck has the most efficient lift system in the world. The downside of that is less people in line and more on the slopes. There's no doubt that Breck probably has the most crowded groomers in Colorado on weekends.
An interesting effect of the new Imperial lift is that the 6-chair is now twice as crowded as before and the T-bar is half as crowded, even on powder days. Most people think you must ride the 6-chair to get to the Imperial Lift.
Breck has approval to remove the 6-chair (slow double) and replaced it with a high-speed quad starting 500 vertical feet lower near the creek bed just upstream from the E-chair load.
Also, they will be adding chairs to the Imperial Express, up to 45, next year because the wind really has not been a signficant factor with 15 chairs.
At the "Grand opening" a couple weeks ago, Adam Aron (CEO VR), Roger McCarthy (CEO Breck/Keystone), Rick Schramak (COO Breck), Ernie Blake (Mayor Breck) rode the lift up after the ribbon cutting in a complete whiteout. It was one of the coldest, windiest days I've seen up there and the lift ran fine.
|So, whatI thought was going to be a long day turned out to be an awesome day.
I'm always amazed when I go up there on Holiday weekends and crowds are little or no factor except at the base lifts. Which BTW was the same that I experienced at Snowmass last Saturday.
