Another Atomic question...re: last year's R11

I just bought a pair to replace my 10.20s. My buddy had a pair last season and pointed something out to me. The front 25% of the ski base is a different color and laminate than the rest of the ski. And when I touch/scratch the seam, I can feel a noticable line. IMO this is a crappy design...using two different base structures/materials. Seems like it's a place where the ski could possibly come apart. Beta...what's the deal here? Did you see any of these come back last year because they shredded themselves?

I haven't seen any problems relating to the refered to joint between the clear and black bases. You won't notice anthing gliding either. My 'Race Department' skis all have this seam, and they are slick as whale poop on an ice floe. Visit a ski shop and look at skis which have there logo inlayed intot he base with contasting colors... the slight height differences can be felt along the whole length.
