Friends, I have been skiing in a pair of Icon Alu's going on my third year. They are Hot Form. Had some stance and alignment issues which were very ably addressed by a local boot fitter who said I would probably benefit from a a bit smaller shell and low volume boot for my boney feet and ankles and "slender" calfs. I believe him because he did not try to sell me anything. Size 9.5-10 medium streetwear and I am in 8.5's in the Icons (is that a 27.5?). I can get a good two fingers in the shell which I now realize is at least one finger too much. The fitter did a great job giving these boots a more clamp-like feeling with neoprene in the tongue and ankles. He also reheated them. Now feels like someone has a determined grip on my ankle and toes just brush front. He canted them (ramp angle?) and took out the internal stiffeners which has given me the more upright stance I am looking for. Bottom line is that I have what feels like a great fit, but it has been done with more soft stuff, making it a more high volume boot. I have read a great deal here about the old XT17. It has been described as a great low volume boot with outstanding flex pattern. It is a matter of time before the Icons pack out again. I have seen '04 XT 17's for $150. What might I experience in a move to this boot? At this price, I could put some $ into a good fitting and still be ahead of the game. I am a 8 +/-, 165lbs, 49yo and ski on Elan 666 in 168 (love 'em), and '03 6* in 175 (love 'em/hate 'em). Not a racer. Eastern skier making the transition from old to new technique). Most important, what size would you recommend. I do seem to have a "Technica foot." Thanks all.
