Let's hear it for Daron Rahlves!

All these Bode threads. How about another guiy who's killing it. I think Daron is even ahead of Bode on WC points now isn't he?

The guy is fast and he loves to ski. In addition to racing he had time for "The Hit List" last year, and had some very impressive footage in "The People vs. Brad Holmes". One clip of him at the bottom of the Hannenkham is incredible. It looks like he's going 70+ through a mogul field.

All hail Daron.

Actually, they're currently tied (for 2nd, behind Raich).

I was sort of thinking the same thing as your overall point, though. Rahlves is just a regular guy who's athletic and likes to go really fast, on skis and otherwise.

Spare us the psychology and hand-wringing.

The Bormio DH was particularly impressive. About 10% of the field was injured. Most all were intimidated. If they raced on courses like that all year there would be no field left. He won all the training runs and the race. When it is icy and dangerous he is simply the best.

He must have a screw loose.

I sort of agree with Epic. It's not all just about Bode, there are other Americans in both the Mens and womens teams who are picking up good points.

Such people as

Ted Ligety
Lindsey C. Kildow
Julia MANCUSO

OK it doesn't look as though they will take the title but neither did Bode 5 years ago. Last time I looked at the overall American team points they were higher than many of the European countries.

I totally agree the US team is not just about Bode. He's the media darling but i feel Rahlves has done a great job over the long haul and seems to stay focused on performance on the course rather than self promotion . . I luv his "adrenalin -junkie" attitude --he's among several exciting skiers on the US team .

I also really enjoy watching.Clarke , Kildow, Mancuso and Lalive

I mentioned this in some other thread, but if you haven't checked out the article in Powder (issue before last) where Mark Abma talks about skiing with Daron on some big, exposed AK lines, do so- it's pretty cool.

Well, Daron's been my preference for a few years. I like consistency in skiing a lot better than the occasional flash of brilliance. Which is why my number one guy is still Stenmark.
