Yeah, I remember him and those days. I was in College when they won the world series in 1984.
Some good talent has come and gone but, not a lot of greats since then.

tiger stuff

OLD tiger stadium was a place i wanted to get to but, alas, i missed that one. not a big fan of most of the newer, flashier stadiums. some of them look like stationary cartoons.

sh't, older i get, more old school i become.

reminds me of another "whatever happened to": ron leflore. came to the tigers way back outta prison, i think. seriously, i think he was "discovered" playing prison ball. (whereas willie horton only LOOKED like he just got out from behind bars.)(NOT mr. dukakis's willie horton.) gates brown. bill freehan. norm cash...

stop me, someone.

I went to the Tiger Stadium when I was 13. Something a person doesn't forget. My Grandpa was the ultimate baseball fan. He really wanted one of his boys to play but they weren't interested.

You know........I'm beginning to think that there are some "well rounded" people on this forum after all

thanks, but there are too many witnesses to my occassional sharp-edgedness and freewheeling sarcasm.

Tigers

I remember 1 ear up to the radio listening to the Tigers getting swept in a doubleheader vs the Angels in Oct 67 after sawx beat the Twinkies...Petrocelli catching that pop up. Glorious day for a 12 yr old!!!

Sawx win!! First flag since 46!

Twinkies, Angels, Tigers and Chisox all down to the wire in the final week...whadda pennant race!! No yanks in sight buried at the bottom of the AL with the hapless KC Athletics.....

...couldn't overcome Bob Gibson with Lonborg on 2 days rest tho... down in 7 to the cardinals....Evil Dan Shaughnessy hadn't created the curse yet.....just bad luck was the reason given.....

Tigers got the Cards in 68 and went all the way...Lolich won 3.

I rooted hard for Tigers in 84...Padres winning a world series with those hideous uniforms? Just would have been wrong. Tony Gwnn's only chance tho....kinda sad.

I grew up in Detroit. Went to the old park at Michigan and Trumbell a lot. It was a great place and great memories. I have never been to the Copa, so I cannot comment on it.

Al Kaline, Mickey Stanley, McClain it was a great team to be a fan of.

Don't forget Mark Fidrych.

68' World Series... Wow, what a great bunch of games.....and back when the sports sticked to their particular season!! Non of the over-running seasons, existing solely for television BS.... Of course, one can always talk about players' salaries too!... Talk about turn-arounds, Curt Flood, centerfielder...goat of Game 7, becomes the #1 soldier in the fight to free the players from owners' plantations....Ol' Denny McLain...the visionary of online gaming!

As a point of interest....
Mark Fidrych was just on my local news. He is participating in a snowmobile ride called Wertz Warriors. They raise money to promote special olympics. This is an awesome charity group. Nice to see him involved.
